From the City of Seattle
You may have recently received an invitation in the mail to one of our upcoming events for the Central Ridge Neighborhood Greenway. I wanted to also reach out to a wider group of community stakeholders with a personal invitation to attend a pop-up event on Thursday afternoon at Firehouse Park near Swedish Cherry Hill Campus.
We’ll also have a booth at this year’s Umoja Fest at Judkins Park and an option to participate online if you can’t make it.

We’ve been working with community members from Capitol Hill, First Hill, Central Area, and Judkins Park since winter 2017 to identify routes for a new north-south neighborhood greenway to be built as soon as 2019. We also asked for input on route options between Lowell Elementary School and Meany Middle School (opening fall 2017).
We heard that the community would like calmer, safer, and flatter routes to get to Rainier Valley, Judkins Park, Swedish Cherry Hill, Volunteer Park, and 15th Ave E businesses.
We want to know if we got the most promising route right. We’re sharing the most promising route and asking for input on intersection design options for the next few weeks – now is the time to learn more and tell us what you think.
We plan to finalize the route this fall and build the greenway in 2019.
If you can’t make it to one of the in-person events, you can share your feedback by completing an online survey. The survey is available from July 27 through August 20. Check the website then for a link to the survey. And please, share it with your neighbors, friends, and colleagues.

Nice to see this taking shape and momentum!
Looks promising. Madison is the big river you have to get across, so it’s nice to see the proposed crossing giving bikes and pedestrians some priority.
I have to admit I don’t see the point of it.
Nobody seems to use the expensive greenway that’s just 6 blocks away, the times I’ve been on it. Why are we building another one right next to it?
Maybe this would be useful if it connected to light rail, but it doesn’t.
Then again, I have so little respect for Seattle’s efficacy in building family-friendly streets where they matter that I already moved out last month for a new life in NYC, where we’re building 20+ miles/year of protected bike lanes. (still read the blog, though!)
I generally like this, but as I’ve seen streams of cars run a red at both 17th and Madison and 19th and Madison I worry we’ll see more frustrated drivers hit pedestrians with a light on 18th. Could we get redlight cameras for these intersections? I see someone run them at least half the time I’m there.
