The Cal Anderson Park Alliance invites all local treasure seekers and thrifty hipsters to enjoy an afternoon of bargain hunting that promises something for everyone. On Sunday, August 27th, residents all over Capitol Hill will populate their front lawns, apartment stoops and Cal Anderson Park with heirlooms, antiques and bric-a-brac for sale as a part of the “8th ANNUAL CAPITOL HILL GARAGE SALE DAY” from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
For this one-of-a-kind neighborhood event, no garage is no problem! Seattleites are invited to join their Capitol Hill neighbors to shop for five hours of bargains, both in Cal Anderson Park and around the neighborhood. Cal Anderson Park Alliance has plotted a map of Capitol Hill neighbors who will be hosting a more traditional garage/stoop/yard/sidewalk sale at their home. This map is available on the event website (capitolhillgaragesale.com) or at the Garage Sale information tent in Cal Anderson Park.
In Cal Anderson Park, event goers will be treated to musical wonders courtesy of DJs LA Kendall and Tony Burns. Alongside neighborhood purveyors of wonders there will also be knife sharpening courtesy of the Sustainable Capitol Hill Tool Library, as well as tasty beverages and treats available at the Capitol Hill Farmers Market just a block away (open from 11:00am until 3:00pm).
Event organizers, Cal Anderson Park Alliance (CAPA) have worked with neighboring businesses and apartment buildings to activate Cal Anderson Park as the hub of this annual event. “Eighty percent of Capitol Hill residents are apartment dwellers. For many, Cal Anderson Park is the neighborhood’s front yard,” said Joel Sisolak, Sustainability and Planning Director for Capitol Hill Housing and CAPA Board Member. “We’re excited to bring the community together to celebrate Cal Anderson Park and to take part in this unique Seattle tradition.”
This year’s Capitol Hill Garage Sale Day is presented by the Cal Anderson Park Alliance with support from the Capitol Hill Seattle Blog and the Capitol Hill EcoDistrict. The day would not been possible without the support of a number of community-minded sponsors, including: AIDS Healthcare Foundation, Board and Vellum, Capitol Hill Housing, Hunters Capital, Recology, Schemata Workshop and Sustainable Capitol Hill.
The “8th ANNUAL CAPITOL HILL GARAGE SALE DAY” will take place on Sunday, August 27th, starting at 10:00 a.m. throughout the heart of Capitol Hill and in Cal Anderson Park. Individuals without a garage or front yard can sign up for table space in Cal Anderson park. A $10 donation to the Cal Anderson Park Alliance secures a spot.
