A resident trapped in the flames was rushed to the hospital in critical condition as crews battled a serious fire at the top of Capitol Hill’s more-than-90-year-old Roxborough Apartments building Friday afternoon.
Seattle Fire was called to the building in the 1700 block of E Denny Way just before 3:30 PM Friday and found the injured woman in the third floor apartment where the fire was believed to have started. The woman in her 60s was rushed to Harborview Medical Center in critical condition.
Seattle Fire reports that more than 30 adult residents of the building were displaced by the fire.
The 1920-built Capitol Hill apartment building is part of an E Denny Way development adding a new four-story, 20-unit building to the lot.
Seattle Fire says their response was upgraded to a two-alarm fire due to the type of building, weather conditions, and potential for the fire to spread.
The cause of the fire was under investigation. Investigators determined the blaze started in the bedroom of a third floor unit. The estimated loss is $200,000 to the structure, and $100,000 to contents.
