Capitol Hill Community Post | This December, Seattle’s first aerial dance festival comes to Capitol Hill

From Apex Aerial Arts

From December 9th to December 16th, 2017, Seattle’s Capitol Hill neighborhood will be home to Seattle’s very first aerial dance festival hosted by Apex Aerial Arts.

Apogee Aerial Dance Festival (AADF) brings together innovative performers and instructors in aerial dance, dance, and circus arts from across the country, welcoming new voices to the thriving circus community that already exists in Seattle.

Participating Collaborators and Venues:
● Versatile Arts
● Acrobatic Conundrum
● SANCA
● The Cabiri
● Pure Motion Physical Therapy
● Capitol Cider
● 12th Ave Arts
● Broadway Performance Hall
…and more
Apogee Aerial Dance Festival’s collaborators are curating an amazing week of workshops, performances, act development, and panel discussions, with more joining the lineup every day.

AADF will also offer Seattle audiences an opportunity to experience amazing aerial dance performances from world class performers unlike anything this city has seen before.
In October we completed a successful Kickstarter campaign; Early Bird Registration has already begun for our Kickstarter Backers and registration will open to the general public on November 13th. We’re delighted to have assembled an extremely exciting schedule for the local circus community to learn, explore, and perform together.

Why Now?
Seattle has a vibrant circus community that has been growing for well over a decade. Our city has many fantastic circus schools and is home to some truly incredible talent in the aerial and circus arts.

Seattle events like Moisture Festival attract worldwide talent and give audiences all the glamour of circus. But Seattle is long overdue for a festival created for our aerial community to explore and expand the boundaries of aerial arts. This festival goes beyond just performances and dives into creative development, enrichment, and exploration.

AADF seeks to facilitate a creative dialogue to inspire the local circus community while building connections with the wider global circus community and give us all an opportunity to learn, create, play, and explore together.

Offerings:
Participants will have the opportunity to take classes and workshops from world class instructors. In addition to skill-building, they’ll also have opportunities to workshop acts they are currently developing, have one-on-one mentorships with professional performers, and explore circus arts outside of the confines of traditional circus. Participants will explore the emerging arena of aerial dance and how that can influence and inform the development of new work.

Aerialists may also submit their acts to a juried showcase and participate in act creation intensives to develop ideas to submit for consideration for an Artist Incubator Residency at Apex Aerial Arts to continue their artistic exploration in 2018.
