- 12/Madison assault: A man suffered a serious cut to the face and one of his three attackers was arrested and booked for felony assault after police responded to a reported fight near 12th and Madison Saturday night just before 7 PM. According the victim, three males who appeared intoxicated were being verbally aggressive toward him as he walked in the area. He ignored their actions until one said he was in the Air Force. The victim told police that a “thank you for your service” retort sparked a violent street attack:
Police say the victim’s eye was horribly swollen by the assault.
One attacker was arrested and booked for the felony. Police say the other two males involved were identified and released. - 12th Ave carjacking reported: SPD was investigating the peculiar circumstances around a reported carjacking that started on 12th Ave near Seattle University early on the morning of Tuesday, November 28th. According to the SPD post on the auto theft, the victim had climbed into the back seat of his car to sleep — with the engine running:
Just after 4:00 am on Tuesday, East Precinct officers responded to Lakeview Boulevard East and East Highland Drive to investigate a report of a carjacking. Officers contacted the 41-year-old victim, who stated that he had parked his car in the 800 block of 12th Avenue and gone to sleep in the back seat with the vehicle running. The man told officers he awoke in the backseat to find another man driving his car. The victim then used his cell phone to call 911. According to the victim, the suspect overheard him calling 911 and stopped the car near Lakeview and East Highland Dr. The suspect got out of the car, opened the rear door, and struck the victim in the face and head. The victim got out of the car and the suspect drove away.
Police say the car was spotted by an officer in the West Precinct who attempted to pull the suspect over. The man fled and crashed near Fairview and Roy where officers took him into custody. He was booked for investigation of robbery. - CD dentist burglary: The Union Street Dental office in new construction at MLK and Union got a rude welcome to the neighborhood in a November burglary caught on — unfortunately useless — surveillance video. Thieves made off with monitors, computers, electronic equipment, and dental equipment in the November 15th break-in. The business is hoping some of the items might turn up for sale so holler if you see anybody suspicious selling second hand dental gear.
- Belmont break-in: A Belmont Ave E lost hundreds in a November 28th break-in that left some sugary-y clues and netted the thief its safe and cash from the register:
SPD is investigating. - Broadway coffee burglary: Broadway’s Honor Coffee was ripped off in a November 7th overnight break-in that targeted the shop’s register.
Police say no signs of forced entry were found. - Make yourself at home break-in: A 1100-block Union St. apartment resident returned home to find somebody had been sleeping in their bed — and had made himself perfectly at home inside the residence. Here’s how SPD described the victim’s story in December 2nd, 1 AM incident:
Police found the suspect wandering in the hallway still carrying his container of food. Police say the suspect told them he was staying in his friend’s apartment but couldn’t provide information to prove it. He was taken into custody and booked for investigation of burglary. - SPD Stats: The latest public report (PDF) from the SPD SeaStat program shows the city’s crime trends as the year winds down.
