Blotter | Broadway phone robbery, burglary arrest update, EastPAC looks at bias crimes

  • Broadway phone robbery: A man was robbed of his phone after being assaulted and thrown to the ground in an incident reported just before 1 AM on Sunday, February 11th in the 100 block of Broadway E:
    A male was reported running from the scene with the victim’s phone. There were no reported arrests in the incident.
  • Burglary arrest update: The two suspects police say they arrested in the act of burglarizing a Capitol Hill building last Friday have not yet been charged. According to court records, probable cause was found in the cases and both men were eligible to be released from jail on $2,000 bail.
  • Honest assault: A man’s contrition after being taken into custody by police for assaulting a bouncer outside an 11th Ave drinking establishment did him some good. Here is what the suspect told police about the early morning February 4th fight:
    Police say he was arrested for investigation of assault but released without being booked into jail.
  • Unsuccessful burglary: Somebody tried to break into an 11th Ave “a Federal housing building for federal inmates that were released from prison but are still being supervised” in a mid-morning February 5th incident, police say. According to the report on the incident, staff at the housing facility found damage to screens on the building from an attempted break-in. There was no suspect description provided despite video surveillance at the scene.
  • Pike/Summit stabbing false alarm: If you heard a lot sirens around 8 PM on Tuesday, February 13th near Pike and Summit, the good news is the “assault with weapons” call turned out to be a false alarm. Arriving police found the reported victim to be suffering from a mental crisis but had not been stabbed. The person was transported to the hospital for observation and treatment.
  • Safeway ‘armed robbery’ –– A chronic shoplifter’s $200 heist of groceries turned into an armed robbery when the suspect allegedly brandished a knife to escape security in this Friday, February 9th incident at the 23rd and Madison Safeway:Police made no immediate arrests.
