With a good reason for the sad news, Jackson’s Catfish Corner has closed — UPDATE: Stay tuned!

There are times, still, when news spreads slowly or, more accurately, when the immediate community knows what is happening but information takes more time to climb the walls and spread out to the rest of the city. Here’s the sad news for a good reason from the Central District: the revival is over, Jackson’s Catfish Corner has closed.

The shutdown was announced last month as owner Terrell Jackson told friends his ALL CAPS good news:

I GOT A CAREER OFFER I CANT TURN DOWN! WITH THAT BEING SAID I WILL BE RETIRING THE FAMILY BUSINESS “ JACKSONS CATFISH CORNER”… SUNDAY JANUARY 7th WILL BE OUR OFFICIAL LAST DAY OPEN… I WOULD LIKE TO THANK THE WHOLE CITY OF SEATTLE FOR SUPPORTING MY GRANDPARENTS LEGACY FOR THAT PAST 32 YEARS!

CHS stopped by Jackson’s new home for the old recipes on 21st Ave for the big reopening in November 2016. “He brought it back with our name on it,” mom Evelyn Jackson told CHS that night. “He’s the man.”

The restaurant was started by the Jacksons in the 1980s before closing at MLK and Cherry in the summer of 2014. Some of the spirit was revived in 2015 when Capitol Hill club and business owner Marcus Lalario opened Fat’s Chicken and Waffles in the space the Corner left behind.

UPDATE 4:35 PM: Stay tuned. We’re told the Jackson family has something new planned for Catfish Corner. You should hear more in coming weeks.

I actually had some catfish there yesterday- under new ownership? It was also a Monday, a day I thought they were closed, but the light was on!
