The Shopaholic’s Closet brings high-end consignment to E Pike

With her new boutique The Shopaholic’s Closet at 1205 E Pike, Audrey Clark hopes to introduce a pop of color to the local femme fashion palette. “I learned a long time ago that greys, blacks, and browns are the basis for Seattle,” she says, “I try to ease ‘em in a little bit—it’s spring!”

Clark’s new store specializes in fashion-forward and high-end apparel on consignment. She’s worked in the fashion industry for years in various capacities from wholesale rep to buyer, and she keeps close tabs on the industry, regularly shopping sample sales in New York and LA with an eye to what will fly in Seattle with our drab regional inclinations.

Clark, a longtime Seattleite, previously ran the shop out of a space in Ballard before transitioning to online sales. She still sells through various retail fashion apps, along with a sideline in “mobile closet cleanses” in which she’ll come to your home and declutter your wardrobe of salable items. She buys with an eye toward upscale and limited edition clothes but sets prices low enough to move through merchandise quickly in the small space. Consignors have the option of donating clothes that don’t sell to the Jubilee Women’s Center.

Currently the most expensive piece in the shop is a stunning Italian embroidered leather jacket at $750. There’s a variety of jewelry ranging from clunky to minimalist, an array of handbags and purses, and several racks of clothing. Clark says shoes are a perennial seller—“They never make you look fat”—and she maintains a wide selection of designer heels.

Additionally, the back room of the shop houses a selection of comics and collectibles, including new-in-box action figures, old LPs and various superhero ephemera accumulated by her business partner. Clark calls this area the “man cave” and plans to extend the geeky offerings into an upstairs room with a “gamer’s den.”

After a long construction process — the space is unrecognizable from its previous incarnation as Samadhi Yoga  Clark is still getting settled in. She has plans for events and art walks, and she’s excited about being part of a lively corner at Pike and 12th, sandwiched between Throwbacks Northwest, Dark Age Tattoo, and Wall of Sound.

“We really want to bring more life up to this end of Pike,” Clark said.
