CHS Pics | A Pike/Pine Record Store Day line

Somehow, someway, Record Store Day still means something on Capitol Hill. With so much brick and mortar retail fading away and streaming music services dominating the industry, it has got to be at least a little surprising to see record stores — shops that sell physical, hard format musical recordings — still spinning in 2018.

The stores clearly have their fans and RSD 2018 brought them out for the special pressings and treats that go along with the annual celebration of vinyl. Here is the line we found waiting outside 10th Ave’s Everyday Music Saturday morning.

Everyday completed a classic Capitol Hill move way back in spring of 2012 as it hopped across the street to make way for fashion retailer Totokaelo. The location — one of five in the world! — is part of a small core of music shops that remain active on the Hill including Wall of Sound now resident at 12th and Pike and one of the original Bauhaus block retailers, E Pike’s Zion’s Gate, and the vinyl action in the back of 14th Ave’s Porchlight.

Next Saturday, April 28th, will bring another celebration of triumphant retail survival. Independent Bookstore Day 2018 includes events across the city including across the street from Everyday Music at 10th Ave’s Elliott Bay Book Company.
