Realfine Coffee makes Pride weekend debut on Capitol Hill

An E Pine cafe kicked back into motion Friday. West Seattle-born Realfine Coffee is now open next to the E Pine Rudy’s.

The opening puts the former home of Stumptown back into action after it was shuttered late this summer so the company could focus on its 12th Ave location.

With help from Dani Cone of the Fuel family of coffee shops, owner Julie Mierzwiak opened Realfine in 2015 on Fauntleroy Way SW where her neighbor was also a Rudy’s. The shops enjoy a symbiotic relationship with the hair chain, Mierzwiak told CHS last year when we first reported on her new Pike/Pine project.

The second Realfine location brings Herkimer beans to the Hill’s cafe scene and, more importantly, reinvigorates a key area in the never-ceasing quest to caffeinate the neighborhood two-block radius by two-block radius.

Realfine Coffee Capitol Hill is located at 616 E Pine. Its West Seattle cafe hours are 6 AM to 7 PM Monday through Friday, 6 AM to 6 PM on the weekends. We’re checking in on their plans for E Pine. You can learn more at realfinecoffee.com.

This spot is like a dinosaur burial ground of coffee shops. I used to go there frequently when it was the Aurafice years and years ago and have seen many come and go. It seems like the perfect spot for a coffee shop right next to Rudys but so far no one has been able to make it work long term.

I think Stumptown’s designers did not do their shop any favors with the huge photo mural featuring apparently a 10-year-old African kid working on a pile of coffee beans.

Note to coffee shop designers: it is OK to hang non-coffee-related art on the walls, and helps keep the place from looking like Starbucks.
