  • Armed robbery: Seattle Police were able to quickly track down a stolen iPhone but it wasn’t clear how much of some $2,000 in stolen cash was recovered in an armed robbery reported just after 7 PM at 12th and Spruce Wednesday night. Police were called to the area of King County’s Youth Service Center around 7:10 PM to the reported street hold-up. The suspect reportedly brandished a pistol and fled the area in a gold or silver vehicle with the victim’s jacket, phone, and wallet with $2,000 in cash. Police tracked down the location of the phone minutes later off S. Lane and searched the area. A backpack, a phone, and a 9 MM handgun with 13 rounds and one chambered were found at the scene along with a wallet with an unknown amount of cash. At least one person was taken into custody, according to East Precinct radio. UPDATE: SPD has released a report on the rip-off with quite a few additional details:
On Wednesday, shortly after 7:00 pm, the victim arranged to meet with the unknown suspect to purchase a cell phone. The meeting occurred in the 1100 block of East Spruce Street. According to the victim, the suspect showed the victim a cell phone and the victim agreed to purchase it. The suspect then pulled out a handgun, pointed it at the victim, and demanded his phone, jacket and car keys. The victim’s wallet and a large amount of cash were in the jacket pocket. The suspect then ran to a nearby waiting car, jumped in, and left the area.

The victim was able to call 911 to report the robbery. East Precinct officers arrived quickly and began tracking the victim’s cell phone with a locator app. Officers tracked the victim’s phone to the 1600 block of South Lane Street, where they located three men standing nearby. The suspects were detained and the victim was able to positively identify the one suspect that robbed him at gunpoint. Officers located a backpack nearby that contained a handgun, which was later determined to be stolen, and the victim’s wallet and ID and car key inside. Officers located the suspect’s vehicle parked two blocks away which was positively identified as the car the suspect fled in. The suspects were arrested. During the course of the investigation, it was discovered that one of the suspects had a large amount of marijuana in his belongings and had lied about his name to officers. Two of the suspects, 21 and 19, were arrested and transported to police headquarters where they were interviewed by detectives. The third suspect, 19, was identified and released at the scene. Following the interviews the two suspect were booked into the King County Jail. This remains an active and on-going investigation.

Xanax bust on Broadway: SPD reports it made a bust on an alleged Xanax dealer and his accomplice Wednesday night on Broadway:
Police seized 100 Xanax pills, recovered a handgun equipped with an extended magazine and arrested two men on Capitol Hill Wednesday evening as part of a narcotics investigation. Investigators had learned a man advertised on social media that he was selling Xanax pills. Police contacted the man, who agreed to sell 100 Xanax pills and several grams of cocaine to an undercover officer. He agreed to meet police on Broadway on Capitol Hill Wednesday evening, and took off running when officers moved in to arrest him. Officers were able to take the man into custody after a brief foot chase, and also contacted several people in a vehicle, which had brought the suspect to the scene. Investigators received permission to search the vehicle, and found a loaded handgun–which was equipped with a magazine capable of holding 31 rounds–on the floor, near where a 19-year-old man was sitting. Police arrested the 19-year-old man after learning he is a convicted felon, and unable to lawfully possess a firearm. Both men were booked into the King County Jail.
  • Central District gunfire: CD residents swamped 911 phone lines Thursday morning after a bout of gunfire reported near 31st and Columbia just before 7 AM. Police searched the area and found three shell casings, according to East Precinct radio. There were no reports of damage and no reported injuries.

What an unusual choice to have $2000 cash on his person. And what luck for the perp to have randomly found someone with that much cash.

not unusual if you are buying a cell phone; per the update. which is why it’s always best to wait for all the details before jumping to conclusions.

Yeah, used cell phones don’t cost $2000. However the large amount of marijuana that the cops found with the suspects just might have been what he was actually trying to buy lol.

Clarification that 31st and Columbia is Madrona, not the CD.

But regardless, it’s all District 3.

This discussion again? Madrona is a sub-section of the CD. As is Leschi, BTW.

For those of us who grew up in Madrona before it was genrtiefied, we all considered it a part of the CD. Just like Leschi, Madison Valley, and even parts of Capitol Hill and Montlake. It wasn’t until the last few decades that I even heard of Cherry Hill or Squire Park. I remember at one time, some realtors were even trying to change the name of the Central District to South Capitol Hill.

generally I think its accurate but according to this map the Tennis Club is in the Central “Area” lol. I’ve never heard the Denny-Blane area considered the CD.
Is there a difference between CD and Central “Area”? I always considered Central “Area” the newer but less accurate term. Its almost like calling the UDist the U Area

PSA: the Seattle Police department encourages people to use its lobby to complete craigslist/offerup transactions. It’s a useful filter for people who don’t want to meet in good faith.

(Sorry this happened to the victim)
