Quick, before the holiday parties arrive, here are a few ideas for things to explore around Capitol Hill this weekend. For more events around the neighborhood, check out the CHS Calendar.

WEDNESDAY, NOV. 28: Struggling with a short attention span? At this year’s Short Circuit, the only Pacific Rim film festival in the world, opportunities for dozing or distraction are kept to a minimum thanks to a showcase of intriguing short films; none top  20 minutes. From the fictional account of a young, deaf Maori boy longing to perform the Haka to a documentary about conservation in Papua New Guinea or a hyper-short South Korean animation dealing with the “struggles of the heart,” the line-up promises to be as diverse as the films’ over 30 countries of origin. Northwest Film Forum, 7 PM

THURSDAY, NOV. 29: In 1988, the WHO declared 1st December the first World AIDS Day. Ahead of the 30th anniversary, The Frye Art Museum shines a light on the continuing urgency of HIV/AIDS activism with a screening of the movie Alternate Endings, Activist risings. Community organizations and collectives, including the Tacoma Action Collective, worked on this national collaborative project to reflect on HIV criminalization, Big Pharma, access to healthcare and the disproportionate effects of HIV/AIDS on marginalized communities. Frye Art Museum, 7-8.30 PM

SATURDAY, DEC. 1: Isvald “Izzie” Klingels is somewhat of an artistic renaissance woman. As an illustrator, she’s worked for big shots such as Sub Pop, Volvo, Oasis, Absolute Vodka, Vogue and Marie Claire, and recently sealed her reputation with dark, starry cover art for Shabazz Palaces. Somehow Klingels also finds time to be a floral designer, work as an independent artist and hand-dye second-hand garments with graceful indigo patterns. On Saturday, Klingels holds a Hand-Dyed Indigo Garments / Trunk Show at Ghost Gallery, where her latest series of drawings about the actions of invasive species (including humans) is on view until Dec. 9. Ghost Gallery, 12-6 PM

SATURDAY, DEC. 1: Seattle U’s nonprofit Hedreen gallery is Capitol Hill’s new gaming hub. For about three months, that is,  courtesy of Elizabeth LaPensée. The artist, who is Anishinaabe, Irish and Métis, creates and studies Indigenous-led games and comics. The arcade art show heart of the game opens this Saturday to the public and will be open until Saturday, March 3rd. Visitors will be able to play the side-scroller game Thunderbird Strike, the Anishinaabe singing game Honour Water and test out the yet-to-be-released When Rivers Were Trails, an Indigenous take on the Oregon Trail computer game. Hedreen Gallery, 2-5 PM

SUNDAY, DEC. 2: There’s brunch, and then there’s brunch done right. The weekly Mimosas Cabaret at the Unicorn falls in the latter category. A full bar, breakfast buffet and drag queens: what more does one need? The answer, according to the mimosa mamas: a mini-musical, songs, comedy and dance. Mistress of ceremony is Mama Tits, the December theme “A Boob Job for the Holigays.” Unicorn, 11 AM
