In the midst of the art walk, you’ll find the Neighbours Alley Celebration with dumpster painting, ornament making, and, yes, alley bowling. THURSDAY, Dec. 13: Contemporary pop artist Genevieve St. Charles might be as consumed by, well, American consumerism as the venerable Andy Warhol was, her work packs a lot more banter. Though she shares a fondness for bananas with Warhol, St. Charles expands her scope to the whole fruit basket (plus deliciously dripping cheese burgers and hot dogs) with a new art show FROOT, featuring shiny peaches and bananas, neon, home furnishings and her famous LaCroix cans with bittersweet flavors such as “Homeless Bitcoin Millionaire” or “Deleted Tinder”. THURSDAY, Dec. 13: Up until this weekend, Seattle-born, Los Angeles painter Jean Nagai made one painting per day, as part of a 100 paintings/100 days project. This might not seem like much work until you know that Nagai covers his surfaces with thousands of tiny flecks of paint hovering over waves of melting colors. His richly hued, pointillistic and melancholic landscapes now come to Seattle for a show at The Factory titled With Spirits. Celebrate the opening of the show, guest curated by local art star Anthony White, at the opening reception during Capitol Hill Art Walk. The Factory, 6-11 PM
FRIDAY, Dec. 14: Shortly before the Portland-based literary heroine, fantasy fiction writer, poet, feminist and environmentalist Ursula K. Le Guin passed away last January, she was working on the final edits for her poetry collection So Far So Good. She’d never see the publication of her thirteenth and final poetry collection. To celebrate her life, and the publication of the collection, local nonprofit publisher Copper Canyon Press invites poets Karen Finneyfrock, Lena Khalaf Tuffaha, Jane Wong, and Azura Mizan Tyabji to pay tribute to Le Guin. SATURDAY, Dec. 15: Photographer Adrien Leavitt‘s work, an exploration of queerness in all its beauty and diversity, strikes a delicate balance between vulnerability and defiance. On Saturday, Leavitt’s organizing Trans (& gnc/non-binary) People Are Everywhere, an open photo shoot for trans, gender-nonconforming, non-binary and intersex people who can stop by to get their photo taken. As the event invitation notes: “In the face of the attacks on trans/gnc folks (f*ck Trump!), let’s create beautiful images to show our community as who we truly are: beautiful, complex, detailed people living as our authentic selves.” LoveCityLove, 1-4 PM

SUNDAY, Dec. 16: It’s 2018, so saying “Let’s get this bread” doesn’t actually mean acquiring a gluten-riddled loaf of baked flour, water and yeast. It’s a meme poking fun at the ‘rise and grind’ of late-stage capitalism. Anyhow, the fresh-made, organic, naturally leavened hearth bread of Ben Campbell, head baker at Capitol Hill restaurant Lark, is worth actually getting. During this Sunday’s Pick-Up and Holiday Maker’s Pop-Up, patrons can buy pre-ordered breads or chocolates, cider and Christmas gifts at the concurring holiday market. FRIDAY, Dec. 14 through SATURDAY, Dec. 22: Don’t let the cute, red onesie with with Santa Claus faces for feet fool you. Sugar Plum Gary, the intrepid character embodied by comedian Emmett Montgomery in his yearly Holiday show, is a “Santanist”. He’ll tell you that Santa is not a wholesome saint but rather a Grim Reaper Zeus we’ll narrowly escape—and that is exactly as strange as it sounds. Questions from the audience are Gary’s impetus for imparting weird wisdom, resulting in a darkly funny and at times unsettling and beautiful show. 18th and Union, 7.30 and 9.30 PM
