Zeeks Capitol Hill adds pizza to 19th Ave E’s growing food+drink menu

If you’re looking for your 19th Ave E dad, we might know where he’s been hanging out

Families on Capitol Hill’s quieter eastern slopes have already become accustomed to beating a path to 19th and Mercer for Whidbey Island-style tacos and Macklesmore-style cookies. The intersection will now have even more foot, scooter, and stroller traffic — the first Zeeks Pizza on Capitol Hill is now open.

Debuting Monday with an afternoon of free slices, the company said the new joint has been ready to go but held up from a planned opening in late 2018 due to a few paperwork issues with the new mixed-use building it calls home, The Shea.

The company said it has long coveted a presence on Capitol Hill. The 19th Ave E location is being opened by Sean Murray, a franchise owner who lives in the neighborhood only a few blocks away. With a new pizza restaurant only blocks away from two elementary schools, a Hebrew academy, a middle school, and Holy Names, he has probably made a wise investment.

Zeeks joins a cluster of food and drink options along 19th Ave E. It shares a block with neighborhood veteran Monsoon — which very nearly had to vacate its home for the first iteration of planned development on the block before the good luck of financial misfortune from the global economic meltdown put development plans temporarily on hold. Across the street, Rocket Taco opened in 2018 in the former Kingfish Cafe space. Another new investment in the neighborhood happened last summer as new owner acquired Linda Derschang’s joint for grown-ups Tallulah’s. The combined lure of cookies and ice cream also draws families to that block at Hello Robin, now in its sixth year. For those looking for a chance to buy into the fun, nearby Greek concern Vios was put on the market last year. And, at 19th and Aloha, Macrina’s arrival in the former Tully’s space has drawn steady daytime traffic since its September 2018 debut. Fuel Coffee is nearby for no-nonsense coffee.

Zeeks originally debuted in 1993 in North Queen Anne after computer engineers and ski pals Tom Vial and Doug McClure were inspired by a long line at a Montana Pizza Hut, the legend goes. The company operates several Seattle Zeeks locations. Others in the region like the 19th and Mercer outpost are franchise locations.

Inside, in addition to the “flavorful, not just cheap and fast” pizza, Zeeks Capitol Hill also features a bunch of beer with a dozen local brews on tap. Hours are 11 AM to 10 PM daily.

The new Zeeks Pizza Capitol Hill is located at 1830 E Mercer. You can learn more at zeekspizza.com.

Great to have Zeeks in the neighborhood, and in such a great looking building! My brother Shea and I will be there frequently. Hope everyone else joins us!

I was hoping Zeeks would be located in The Liam, but I’m prejudiced. Great to have Zeeks in the neighborhood. You’ll be seeing the Saffel’s there.

This pocket on 19th is so great. Love Tallulah’s, Cone & Steiner, and Hello Robin. Zeeks is a great addition.

I can’t believe that Zeek’s has neighborhood ties, yet has that ugly neon sign. It’s making 19th Avenue East look like a strip mall. All the other businesses have non-illuminated signs, and they are not suffering from lack of business. I wish Zeek’s would be responsible neighbors and take down the horrible neon signs.

Booo. You guys are lame. Neon is cool.

Zeek’s has a really cool sign. AND as a neighbor, I have to say I think it looks great.

C’mon Joe, your poopy pants comment is pretty cry babyish. Time to get a job or something and complain about something that actually matters.

I agree with the comment about the neon. Sean Murray lives in the neighborhood, yet he would bring the first neon sign on 19th into the neighborhood? It isn’t needed, and its an eyesore. Keep 19th Avenue cool; get rid of the neon.

Could be worse. You wanna trade with us here in the CD? We’ll take your neon Zeke’s sign, and you can have
“Hey, Stoner, around the corner!” or
“1-800-GET-DRUGS”.
Your choice. Deal?

Hey Gregg with two G’s, you and Joe McDonald should hang out and talk about hand carved wood signs. LOL. Neon is cool.
