Snowbruary sneaks into March with Thursday morning coating and snowy streets on Capitol Hill

Capitol Hill woke up Thursday morning to a little more Snowbruary. In March. There won’t be a cute name for this one.

About a 1/2 inch of snow was sticking around Capitol Hill’s highest elevations but the National Weather Service says to expect rain to mix in with the flakes as temperatures rise into the low 40s by the afternoon. In the meantime, a mix of wet snow could fall through the morning.

In the meantime, the morning commute will bring slick roads and lots of people using them. Unlike the February snowstorms, Thursday’s smaller accumulations didn’t come with as much forewarning — and cancellations. As of just before 7 AM, Seattle Public Schools (regular hours and bus routes) and the city were expecting standard schedules and King County Metro was on regular routes in the Capitol Hill area.

Off the Hill, downtown streets and I-5 were wet and clear.

CHS is monitoring police and Seattle Fire activity and so far it has been a quiet morning around Capitol Hill with no reports of major spinouts or road closures. SPD has responded to a few reports of blocking vehicles on side streets including areas like 18th and Mercer and around 23rd and Thomas.

The National Weather Service reports that the 8/10th of an inch of snow measured at Sea-Tac Thursday morning pushes the season’s total to 21 inches.

You can check the CHS Street Cams page before you head out. And the CHS Weather page has the latest reports from local observations. SDOT’s winter weather map updates — if it comes to that — are here.

“There won’t be a cute name for this one.”

Uhhhh there wasn’t a cute name before. “Snowbruary” is snowdiculous and I wish I could snowmit it from memory.
