At least one person was reported shot and witnesses reported multiple shootout scenes Saturday night near 23rd and Jackson.
According to Seattle Police radio reports on the 8 PM incident, police identified at least one shooting scene in the parking lot between the Starbucks and Walgreens in the shopping center at the corner of 23rd and Jackson. There was a report of blood and shell casings found at the parking lot scene, multiple shell casings on 24th Ave S, and bullet damage to a car reported near 24th and Main. A resident at 24th and Yesler reported a bullet had gone through their window.
Police were also responding to Harborview where a victim arrived following the shooting. We do not have information about their condition at this time.
UPDATE 4/22/2019: Police tell CHS the victim that arrived at Harborview was a male with a gunshot wound to the shoulder.
The gunfire follows a shootout investigated Wednesday afternoon in the same area. There were no reported injuries in that incident.
Early Saturday morning, a person was also reported to have been shot in a Pine parking lot popular with Capitol Hill nightlife crowds.
UPDATE 4/22/2019 11:20 AM: SPD has posted a brief on the shooting. We’re checking with SPD regarding the discrepancies in the location of the shooting:
In the second incident, witnesses called 911 around 7:45 pm Saturday to report a fight at Judkins Park. As officers were arriving on that call additional reports of shots fired at 24 Avenue and East Yesler Street began coming in. Officers quickly converged on the area and found a pool of blood but no victim. Minutes later, a 25-year-old man with a gunshot wound to his shoulder arrived at Harborview Medical Center. Gang Unit detectives are investigating both cases and ask anyone with information to please call the Violent Crimes tip line at 206-233-5000.

Re. gun violence in CD/Cap Hill–over time, getting worse? Better? About the same? And is this gang stuff or violent impulses uncorked everywhere thanks to the tacit permission by the Bozo-in -Chief of the U.S.?
It may be easy , convenient, and fun to associate it with The TrumpWad, but it’s been going on for the last 3 administrations (or more) too. Not any better, but not any worse because of tRump.
If only there existed ways of tracking this kind of information, over time.

There’s less crime today, by almost every measurement, but way more coverage of crime. Hence everyone thinks it’s gotten worse when, in fact, it hasn’t.
We wrote about gun violence trends specifically here
Despite recent CD and Capitol Hill shootings, Seattle says its efforts against gun violence are working
Don’t know if this explains it, but I seem to recall a surge in gang violence about this time every year. Spring fever?
That’s been my experience as well. As soon as the weather starts getting nicer people start hanging out outside and violence follows
Where is the proactive response from the city?
There literally used to shooting every other week in the CD. In no way am I justifying or down playing the severity but it’s way less. There’s very clearly the flare up in the gang war between the Southend and the CD
The shooting was in the Walgreens parking lot right next to Starbucks – not sure what incident the police were describing. I live directly across the street and looked outside when I heard the shooting (I’m on 5th floor) and there were people ducking and scrambling and taking off in cars. It was about another 5 minutes or more before I saw police even in the area, hauling it up Jackson. I didn’t see any police stop in the Walgreens lot though. I walked over to the front of Starbucks yesterday and there is a trail of blood on the sidewalk right near the front door.
I’m over this shit. I’m tired of all of the loitering, noise and “business” that goes down in that parking lot. Gentrification on each corner isn’t going to change what happens in this neighborhood.
Have hope. It’ll be much better once the Vulcan buildings are populated. Same for Union and 23rd. Look at Madison and 22nd. 15 years ago that was Deano’s and Chocolate City, drugs and prostitution on that corner. There’s still some sketchiness there sometimes, but things got waaay better as soon as the Safeway came in and the bar got shut down.
