It is best to just give up when it comes to things like Twitter and Facebook and accept that “Capital Hill” happens. But enjoying classic forms of the typo remains a solid shared joke and cultural marker. We’ve been blessed with some good ones lately. Some we hope stay perfectly flawed forever. Others need to be repaired.
Sound Transit Monday said its facilities folks will take action if needed after a visitor pointed out that its signage inside Capitol Hill Station read “Capitol Hill Station,” indeed, for sighted readers. But braille readers have been enjoying a classic “Capital Hill” typo for years.
CHS can’t confirm the typo but we’re betting some of our readers can. This is probably also a good time to invite feedback on our own usability. Let us know about any screen reader, etc. problems you encounter on CHS and we’ll try to improve your experience.
UPDATE: Confirmed:
Yes accurate. It’s also in older English Braille rather than Unified English Braille — only standardized in 2010 and obviously much of the population of Braille readers will have learned older contracted Braille. I’m learning Braille (UEB) and got confused by the station signs.
