Police announce arrest in 23rd and Cherry gas station shooting — UPDATE: Guns seized

Seattle Police say they have arrested a 25-year-old Renton man for his part in a shooting at a Central District gas station earlier this month that left a woman wounded after she was apparently caught in the crossfire.

CHS is not naming the man because he has not been charged but records show he was arrested and ultimately convicted in connection with this 2011 incident in which South Seattle gang members opened fire during a vigil for a 19-year-old who had been shot and killed.

In the Friday night, May 3rd incident, police say they were called to the area of the AMPM at 23rd and Cherry just after 8:30 PM where they found shell casings but no victim. Minutes later, a female was reported with a gunshot wound to her upper leg at 28th and Yesler where she had driven after being shot at the service station.

The shooting is part of a string across Capitol Hill and the Central District including the murder of 19-year-old Royale Lexing who was gunned down at 21st and Union last Friday. Police are looking for the public’s help in solving that case. Anyone with information is encouraged to call SPD’s tip line at (206) 233-5000.

UPDATE 5:10 PM: SPD reports, “as part of an ongoing investigation into recent gang-related shootings in the Central District and South Seattle,” a joint federal and local policing effort served several warrants in the King County region on Wednesday and “recovered a cache of weaponry, including three military-style rifles, four handguns, and a significant amount of ammunition.”

SPD says members of its Gang, Narcotics and East Precinct Anti-Crime units, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms participated in the effort.

Police say the believe these weapons “were intended to be used in future gang-related violence.”

One man was arrested in connection with the firearms.

I am curious if theses guns were stolen (most likely) or obtained legally?

Also these aren’t military style rifles, only pistols and a carbine. Not one rifle. I am still happy these guns aren’t in the hands of these criminals. Maybe if we make stricter gun laws these criminals will fallow the law.
