With Poppy’s Broadway days at an end, sibling Lionhead getting new owners

With Poppy now closed after 11 years of Capitol Hill greatness and the northern Broadway restaurant undergoing a transformation into the new Carrello from the Altura restaurant family, the future for Poppy’s little next door sibling is now a bit more clear.

Lionhead, born in August 2015 as chef/owner Jerry Traunfeld’s play space for the flavors of the Sichuan peppercorn, will have new, familiar owners.

According to liquor license application information for the address, Lionhead chef Garrett Doherty will join Ben Chew to take over the small restaurant and bar venue that also does steady delivery business.

The new ownership wasn’t ready to comment on their plans just yet so we don’t know if any changes are in store for Lionhead. Stay tuned for updates. The restaurant remains open even as construction work sets in next door for Carrello.

In addition to the Carrello transformation, Broadway food and drink’s late summer wave of change will include work underway to reopen the old Broadway Grill space as Olmstead, a new sibling to nearby Witness.

Lionhead is located at 618 Broadway E. You can learn more at lionheadseattle.com.
