Capitol Hill Community Post | Capitol Hill celebrates the 10TH ANNUAL CAPITOL HILL GARAGE SALE DAY September 8, 2019

From the Cal Anderson Park Alliance

The Cal Anderson Park Alliance invites all local treasure seekers to enjoy an afternoon of bargain hunting that promises something for everyone. On Sunday, September 8th, residents all over Capitol Hill will populate their front lawns, apartment stoops and Cal Anderson Park with heirlooms, antiques, and bric-a-brac for sale as a part of the “10TH ANNUAL CAPITOL HILL GARAGE SALE DAY” from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

For this one-of-a-kind neighborhood event, no garage is no problem!  Seattleites are invited to join their Capitol Hill neighbors in Cal Anderson Park for five hours of bargain shopping, DJ music, and sun.  In addition, shoppers will be able to access an online map of Capitol Hill neighbors who will be simultaneously hosting a more traditional garage/stoop/yard/sidewalk sale in front of their homes. This map and more information about the event will be available on the official Capitol Hill Garage Sale Day website (capitolhillgaragesale.org) or at the garage sale event information table in the shelterhouse in Cal Anderson Park on September 8th.

Event organizers, Cal Anderson Park Alliance (CAPA) have worked with neighboring businesses and apartment buildings to activate Cal Anderson Park as the hub of this annual event. “This event is really a response to our growing and changing community of apartment dwellers who don’t have access to a front yard or stoop,” said Don Blakeney, nearby resident and CAPA Board Member. “We have thousands of people living within a block of Cal Anderson Park, making it one of the most heavily used parks in Seattle–our vision is that it’s everyone’s front yard.”

Alongside neighborhood purveyors of wonders the Sustainable Capitol Hill Tool Library will be back for the third year to offer a free community kitchen knife-sharpening station. Additionally, there will be  tasty beverages and treats available at the Capitol Hill Neighborhood Farmers Market just a block away (open from 11:00am until 3:00pm). Cal Anderson Park is also one of Seattle’s most transit accessible public spaces, sitting at the intersection of both city and regional mass transit. The Seattle Streetcar and Link Light Rail bring people from downtown Seattle, the University of Washington and South Seattle to this park in the heart of Capitol Hill.

The Capitol Hill Garage Sale Day is one of Seattle’s longest-running community garage sales and is celebrating its 10th anniversary. This event continues to be 100% community and volunteer driven and wouldn’t be possible without the support of Capitol Hill Seattle Blog and Hunters Capital.

The “10TH ANNUAL CAPITOL HILL GARAGE SALE DAY” will take place on Sunday, September 8th, starting at 10:00 a.m. with an outdoor sale of over 50 vendors in Cal Anderson Park. Individuals without a garage or front yard have signed up for table space in the park, making a $15 donation to the Cal Anderson Park Alliance to cover some of the event costs. Registration for community spaces in the park closes on Thursday, 9/5 at 12:00 p.m. (noon). For more information or the official map, go to capitolhillgaragesale.com. The Cal Anderson Park Alliance (CAPA) was founded in 2006 to bring together neighborhood and city stakeholders who are dedicated to generating creative, innovative activities, programs and events to activate Cal Anderson Park. Today CAPA is the community voice for an active, vibrant and verdant central park for Capitol Hill.
