Next new Uncle Ike’s might not be on Capitol Hill

It looks like its under construction E Olive Way shop won’t necessarily be the next Uncle Ike’s to open in Seattle.

The 23rd and Union chain of I-502 cannabis stores has applied to take over the license of a retailer in a Lake City Way strip mall best known for being home to Tubs Gourmet Subs.

In the application posted last week by the Washington State Liquor and Cannabis Board, an Uncle Ike’s registered corporation is seeking permission to acquire the license for Vela, a business owned by a company registered to Kenneth Jones.

Vela’s 1st Ave S location shuttered after it was hit with the largest fine ever handed down by the state for hidden ownership.

Uncle Ike’s owner Ian Eisenberg declined to comment on the application.

In August, reported on the start of delayed construction to create Uncle Ike’s “Capitol Hill West” shop in an overhauled office building next do The Crescent.

With construction just starting, it might be a close race between the E Olive Way project and any approval by the notoriously slow state board of a new Uncle Ike’s on Lake City Way.
