An interjection before we get to the scanner notes -- The headlines don't say 'Capitol Hill' but you might want to pay this attention. The wave of violence that just swept across Seattle involves kids living right around the corner -- Seattle PI: Gang link seen in shootings:

Gabe Morales, a local gang expert and consultant to law enforcement, said the Hoovers are part of a group of South End gangs that have had a long-running feud with gangs in the Central District. He said the number of victims last weekend heightens concerns about reprisals.

"I think the police are on top of it, but unfortunately, as soon as the pressure backs off, I think the South End is going to start blasting around the CD," Morales said.

The connections between the Hill and the CD might seem little more than geography but there are more solid connections like the Hill kids who go to school at Garfield. These connections don't stop where one neighborhood ends and another begins -- these connections are carried here. We're wrapped up in this...

According to Capitol Hill Triangle, the Obama Mural on E John St has been restored.  Let's hope the taggers show a little respect this time around.

Speaking of tagging, there was some talk a while back about possibly asking neighborhood stores to restrict the same of spray paint.  Another way that may be easier to help control the persistence of tagging is to be aware of what's going on in the neighborhood.  Keep an eye out, report taggers to the police, install lights near popular tagging places, and keeping our neighborhood clean.  A study, echoing the "broken windows" theory, has shown that the present of graffiti (not art, but plain graffiti) tends to raise the persistence of littering and theft.

Police blotter has this account of a knifing in the 1600 block of 13th Ave early Saturday morning. Looks like there are few apartment buildings in the area including La Villa and The Bristol. Will have to check with SPD to find out where this occurred.

On November 22 at 3:30 A.M. officers initially responded to a disturbance in the hallway of an apartment complex in the 1600 block of 13 Avenue. As officers were arriving they were getting a second call of a stabbing at the same location. Officers arrived on scene and contacted the male victim, who had cuts to his left thigh and lower back. The victim was apparently at a party in one of the apartments and got into a verbal altercation with another man. Both men walked outside in front of the building while arguing and the suspect reached out with a sharp object, slashing the victim in the thigh and back. The suspect then fled the scene. Officers conducted an area check for the suspect but were unable to locate him. The victim was treated by SFD at the scene and...

The suspect arrested in the Kerse tribute tagging in Pike/Pine is a 20-year-old man named Long Hoang Le, Seattle Police Department confirms. He was booked early Sunday morning and released Monday night as the investigation of "malicious mischief" continues. Thanks to help from Scott at Central District News and Tracy over at the West Seattle Blog in tracking down the info.

SPD is using its fancy new blog to tout the collar of a 'prolific' tagger allegedly responsible for graffiti on "multiple buildings, including several car dealerships, and several businesses in the areas of 700 East Pike, 700 East Pine and 900 East Pike street."

Report sez the 20-year-old suspect was out to mark the recent death of Bay Area graffiti legend Kerse BTM and was caught in the act early Sunday morning. Hopefully they don't try to nail the kid for all the Kerse-work they find out there on the streets because this gentleman has company.

Will give SPD a call to see what else I can find out.

UPDATE: SPD confirmed that the suspected tagger is being charged with a felony level count of malicious mischief. From my understanding, if there was less than $1,500 damage, maximum sentence would be around 5 years. You can read more about the charge on the Avvo legal site. Also, no specific location of where he was apprehended.

Twitter neighbor ay1ene reports a crazy scene in the early hours of Saturday on Pine:

Picture: Twitter user ay1ene

ay1ene:
I've never seen so many cop cars in one place. Something bad happened by Linda's in Capitol Hill.   about 17 hours ago from txt

There's a woman laying on the sidewalk being attended to by EMTs. The store at Pine and Boylston is trashed.   about 17 hours ago from txt

Apparently there were a couple fights followed by looting. Nearly every cop in Seattle must be here.   about 17 hours ago from txt

There's at least one person on the ground inside the store. I hope everyone is OK.   about 17 hours ago from txt

A fight broke out in the parking lot across the street. The cops are yelling at them with megaphones.   about 17 hours ago from txt

Sounds like the market in the area called the Pine Food Store. Real-time 911 confirms a call to the area around 1:45a. We'll check scanner archives and give SPD a call to see what other details they'll cough up.

Many of the incidents reported here are the equivalent of crime trivia. Some are part of larger trends. Every now and then, they fit into a larger puzzle. Will the 'highly intoxicated' caller be part of our story again? Hope not, really. Stories involving booze, police and guns -- even made up guns -- usually aren't happy stories.

If, like me, you were wondering if people were, um, more civic minded on election day, yesterday's Capitol Hill police scanner items don't necessarily make a great case. No word on number of arrests made in the area last night with all the fun and frolic. I'll update once I get a chance to talk to somebody from SPD about it unless some other news outlet (get on it Jonah Spangenthal Lee) gets to it first..

It's not often that you see a cop run down a suspect on Broadway, but there we were, walking to an election night party, when 4 police cars came whirling up the street.  One cop jumped out and started running up Broadway towards The Alley, and aprehended the suspect.  Although the officer on the scene told me it was a car break-in, CentralDistrictNews Scanner reported it as a mini crime spree, and we got to see it come to a close.    Hopefully that was the end of the crazy crime for tonight.  Have fun at your election parties!

In 2 days, I have seen at least 8 license plates with a black slash of spray paint in the upper right corner, covering the month/year tab stickers.  Most of these cars were parked near Group Health (not that one should make an association with the hospital, just citing location) and one was driving by.  Have you seen any cars with this mark?  Any thoughts on what/who is doing it?  I doubt the state department is marking cars with expired tabs.
