Women’s Rights Day Film Showing

BIRTHRIGHT: A War Story

An urgent look at the far-reaching attacks on women’s ability to control their own bodies in the U.S.

In the full-length film Birthright, award-winning investigative journalist Civia Tamarkin probes the origins and impact of the decades-long effort to control women’s reproduction through legal and religious assaults.

The concept of fetal ‘‘personhood” has resulted in hundreds of criminal prosecutions, primarily of women of color, for supposedly unsafe behavior during pregnancy. Meanwhile, maternal and infant deaths of Black and Indigenous people are skyrocketing. How can activists ensure no forced pregnancies, along with healthy, socially supported parenthood for those who choose it? Learn the facts and be part of the post-film discussion on what can be done locally and nationally.

Purvi Patel, sentenced to 20 years in prison in Indiana for inducing an abortion in 2015.
