| What: | Come hear the voices behind some of Seattle’s best green innovations! Bloom! ( http://bloomseattle.com) is an exciting new event focused on green innovation. Six speakers will share their passion for sustainability–what’s new and what’s making an impact. The event will take place at Sole Repair, at 1001 East Pike on Capitol Hill (98122). Speakers include: Molly Moon: Molly’s success is known throughout the city and her product is the source of our continual enjoyment. Not only has she taken ice cream a whole step forward, she’s done it in a way that smartly incorporates sustainability as she’s leveraged local ingredients and compostable everything. Further, she’s taken on the social aspect of running a business head-on, providing benefits for her employees despite being a small business. Come learn how she’s done it! Bruce Minturn: Oil. Petroleum. Black Gold. Our relationship to petroleum is at the heart of so much happening in clean tech and sustainability today. Bruce will share his journey and thoughts on petroleum. When Bruce isn’t talking about oil, he’s doing energy audits and developing energy audit methodology. Aaron Fairchild: Aaron sees opportunity in chaos, which is why his company is raising $50 million for its “Energy Retro Fund” to buy foreclosed or undervalued residential properties, retrofit them for energy efficiency, then rent or sell them for a return. Aaron has spent considerable time working in real estate finance and energy efficiency. He serves on Mayor Nickels’ Existing Buildings Green Building Task Force, and recently worked with Puget Sound Energy in their Residential Energy Efficiency Department. Brett Horvath and Zach Silk: The proliferation of social media, the disaggregation of one-way media vehicles and the need for nimble, creative economies are changing the way we think of ourselves and our relationships with each other and institutions of all kinds, and our understanding of communication, production and power are shifting. This new dynamic has the potential for amazing gains. Brett (previously in charge of T. Boone Pickens’ social media strategy) and Zach (previously deputy director of Governor Gregoire’s campaign) will explore the topic and connect it to green innovation. Joe Whinney: Founder and CEO of Theo Chocolate, which describes itself as the only roaster of organic cocoa beans and the first roaster of Fair Trade certified cocoa beans in the United States, Joe has paved the path of socially responsible chocolate. Paying from two times to four times the futures price of cacao, based on quality first, Theo helps bring the farmers further up the brand equity chain and take them out of the commodity status. Further, through their strict adherence to organic standards, Theo is helping promote sustainable agriculture around the world – all while turning out delicious chocolates. The event is produced by Seattle Greendrinks, Re-Vision Labs, Evoworx and Kevin Moore Consulting. |
