SBUX LEED clarification
Received this note today:

Hi CHS editors:
Wanted to clarify a point on the LEED certification for the Roy Street Coffee & Tea location. Roy St. is currently registered for LEED certification and we expect it will achieve certification in the next several months. Roy St. is the 8th Starbucks store to be built according to LEED standards, and it’s the 2nd to open as part of the LEED Volume Certification pilot. We’re going to build a minimum of 10 LEED Volume Certification pilot stores around the world over the next several months. This effort will help us reach our goal of achieving LEED certification for all new company-owned stores worldwide beginning in late 2010.

Hope that helps! Let me know if you have any questions on the certification.

Thanks,
Emily

I'm definitely working on it and I know Jonah at Seattle Crime continues to dig in also.

I feel the same way as you about every incident on the Hill. It's a big part of what drives me. We continue to push on SPD to make their reports and information available in a more timely, open manner. Progress is slow -- things like just getting their PDF reports to be text searchable are a big deal.

From what I can tell, this incident drew an outsized response.

Two things here --
The recent comments widget: Good catch! Had to make some decisions on space on homepage but your query has made me re-think that choice. Re-instating!

As for story order, we *occasionally* make the decision to promote something to top of page out of time order. The purpose is to sometimes put an important story front and center. We're probably doing this a little too much. Downside is a frequent visitor might see a story they've already read and assume there is nothing new below. Thanks for the feedback!

RE: Blog
It's a new aggregation system we're working on to better link to other sites when we see posts of interest to Capitol Hill readers. Currently, we do things old school by manually copying a blurb and adding a link to the original post. This is an attempt to do that better and more consistently. The majority of CHS content will always be original, CHS-sourced stuff but we are also looking for ways to bring in a lot of the great articles, pictures, etc that other sites are posting and do it in a way that adds to CHS and adds to those sites.

Did you really complain about CHS censoring comments? I wish I'd seen but KOMO nuked your stuff too quickly. It's pretty rare for me to pull a comment outright. There are enough 'features' at play to police things that I don't have to and, really, don't want to. Would rather let the system work things out. The system includes all the ppl, too. Better to have the discussion usually. Exceptions include disgusting hate speech. One thing that does happen on occasion is somebody's perfectly, um, innocent comment getting trapped in the occasionally overaggressive SPAM filter. It's an ongoing challenge for us but for every one good apple that gets stuck (and we can unstuck, btw!), 10 rotten spam apples get tossed.

Hey Z, my analytics system is no different than most every other site on the web you visit. And CHS doesn't even run some of the big 'enterprise' level analytics systems like you'll find on AMZN or MSFT sites. For a quick view of what system a site you visit is using, check out:
http://www.webanalyticsdemystified.com/vendor_discovery_tool

Collecting the IP address of a site visitor is nothing new and some systems even expose the information on comments (we don't) -- it's built into many message board solutions, for example.

Here's komo's analytics info, for example:
http://www.webanalyticsdemystified.com/vendor_discovery_tool
