After a number of false starts, we have a definite opening date for Pony. Mark Stoner, Pony's owner, emailed us to let us know that the resurrected Pony will open Thursday September 3, 2009. Above is a poster from Pony's closing night on 11/28/07.

We spotted two liquor applications that will bring two new restaurants to Capitol Hill. "The Living Room" will occupy a space recently vacated by the Anne Bonny at 1355 East Olive Way. One of the individuals listed on The Living Room's application appears to be a local artist named Monika Proffitt.
Close by in a previously residential space, David Yuchasz, who has a real estate background and another relative are seeking a license to serve liquor at 1515 Bellevue Avenue, Apt 101.
22 Doors closed for remodeling on August 30, 2009 post-brunch (at 3 pm). They will reopen on Tuesday September 8, 2009 with a remodeled floorplan. While the bar area will remain relatively intact, they plan on eliminating most of the booths and will create a stage area in the right corner (as you enter). The color palette will change, and they plan to embellish the ceiling. As well, they will have a brand new dinner menu with small plates - all under $12.
Thierry Rautureau, "The Chef in the Hat" and Rover's owner/chef will be opening a more casual French eatery in February 2010 called "Luc" (named after his late father). The location will be adjacent to Rover's current location at 28th and Madison - on the Northeast corner. Thierry is offering up the chance to invest in the new restaurant by buying gift certificates that will grow in value over time. Here are the details from the email announcement:
As some of you have already heard, I am beginning a new restaurant project. Named after my late father: Luc. More casual than Rover’s, LUC is a Bar/Kitchen/Luc 2 Go in the heart of Madison Valley. Here is where you come in.

The Chapel Bar
Originally uploaded by The Shifted Librarian
Sometimes, CHS reports news that happened 3 minutes ago. Sometimes, it happened last year. We haven't seen anybody write about this so, therefore, it's still news: Chapel has a new owner.
On August 21, Chapel's Change of Corporate Officer Application was approved by the Washington State Liquor Control Board. We spoke to Elizabeth Harazim, Chapel's Marketing and Promotions Manager, and she stated that the change in ownership happened last year and they had been delayed in notifying the liquor board.
The state corporation filing for Chapel lists Medina resident Charles Knox as the 'registered agent' of Chapel Bar, Inc.
Harazim said that Chapel will be stepping up its efforts to host more events (e.g. djs, fire eaters, comedy, and other performances).
On Twitter this morning, Justin Brotman, Healeo's owner, reported the following: "Someone picked our back lock last night and stole our deposit and cash register money. Tonight we will have an alarm and me sleeping inside." We reached out to Seattle Police Department spokesperson Mark Jamieson and confirmed that the burglary is thought to have occurred sometime between 10 pm last night and 10:30 a.m. this morning. An estimated $700 was taken from the till.
- It's official: Gert's barbecue will be on Capitol Hill Monday thru Saturday from 7 to 11 pm at the Diamond Parking lot on the SW corner of 15th & Pine
- Tavern Law opened Friday to (mostly) acclaim
- Tom Carr gives adorable Faire Gallery a hard time (by opposing expansion of their liquor license to include hard liquor). Plum is now serving beer and wine (shush - don't tell Carr but they're applying to serve hard liquor too)
- Sitka & Spruce to open in the Melrose Building March 2010 (hours will be 7 a.m. - 2 a.m.every day)
- Elysian releases Reunion Beer (proceeds benefit bone cancer research) and will have it on tap for a few weeks: Washington Beer Blog says of Reunion, "It has a refreshing quality that was particularly nice on a hot summer evening."
- Pete Yorn on Spinasse "best meal I've had in 6 years"
- Makini Howell explains her vision for Plum in this KUOW interview
- Fuel Montlake hosted Tobey Macguire and "The Details" (a/k/a raccoon movie) crew last Saturday
Here are some photos of bites and drinks from Tavern Law yesterday. From what I gleaned on Twitter, the drinks & food met expectations but service was sometimes slow and unresponsive (understandable given that it was opening night). A huge thanks to kevinseattle for the photos and running commentary.
The highly-anticipated Tavern Law opens today at 5 pm in the Trace Lofts building. Look for Prohibition-era and before cocktails in a swank manly space.
Tavern Law is 21 and over but if you have tykes, you may want to check out the Children's Rummage Sale (they're promising baked goods as well) happening both Saturday & Sunday to benefit Beginnings Co-op Daycare
CHS commenter Newbie has asked a question that I'm sure many of us have been wondering about - what's the big deal about the re-emergence of Pony (set to open tomorrow)? Clubfly provides the answer
Capitol Hill Farmer's Market returns Sunday at 10 am - take advantage of the blueberry bumpercrop we have this summer
And 3 Dollar Cinema today features a classic tonight - 9 to 5. Who's got a Dollybill photo?
Another film worth checking out is Art & Copy playing at the NWFF, which has been described as a positive film about advertising. After tonight's 7 pm showing, there will be a panel discussion featuring advertising executives.
