So I know this totally pegs me with respect to that poll from a few months ago, but is there a good place for kitchen stuff up here?

In particular, I've got this coffee pot that I just love, and which I might like to give to others as a gift:
my coffee pot
They're available on backorder from Vita (thanks for the links to local online shopping, J!), but are they the only supplier? And what if I need a spare gasket?
Or a silicone basting brush???

I know there are places downtown, but anyone know of a place up here?

Still being relatively new to the area, I'm not sure if this is a result of unusual weather or unusual trees. But is anyone else noticing blossoms around the Hill lately? It is December, isn't it?

From SU CampusNews:
Song, candlelight and the celestial sounds of the harp all combine to make this year’s “Festival of Christmas” a special event that you will want to attend. The Seattle University Choirs will hold two performances at St. Joseph Church (18th E. and E. Aloha, on Capitol Hill): 8 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 5, and 2 p.m. at Sunday, Dec. 7.

Led by Joy Sherman, director of choral music, the program includes the “Magnificat” of Francesco Durante, Benjamin Britten’s “A Ceremony of Carols,” the magnificent “Bogoroditse Djevo” of Arvo Part, and other fine Christmas music from several centuries. Ticket prices are: $30 for reserved seating; $18 for general admission; and $7 for students.

For more information, contact the SU choir concert information line at 296-5372.

Only about two hours to go!

Last chance this year to walk up to a friendly farmer and buy beef, pork, lamb, turkey, eggs, carrots, celery, apples, peppers, fresh pasta, onions, cheese, garlic, honey, potatoes . . .

I am so hungry after this shopping trip!

There are so many wonderful ways to spend time on Capitol Hill (as a recent post reminds us), but I wanted to give a nod to another:

I took my Intro to Philosophy students to the Seattle Asian Art Museum today for one of their tours, called "Discovering Buddhist Art: Seeking the Sublime." It was pretty damn cool. (I think even my hipster freshmen enjoyed it.)

Docent named Kevin did a great job of explaining some of the more interesting pieces (1,000 arms on that Bodhisattva!?), the historical background, and the religious and philosophical significance of some of the great pieces there.

All right here on Capitol Hill! Huzzah!

I wanted to second pfft the magic dragon's "yay for Vivace," and mention that if you feel the same way you could stop by this Friday (24 October) between 5 and 8 for their 20th Anniversary Party and Brix Grand Opening.

Looks like you should be able to enjoy the Greg Ruby Jazz Trio and someone (or something?) called Vaclav the Illusionist.

The other day, grabbag mentioned voter registration. I'm sure you're all registered, but in case you're not, don't worry: you can register online! Just has to be done by tomorrow (Saturday 4 October), as jrrrl said recently.

This URL should take you to the online registration site:

I was saddened to discover today that India Express now only has a buffet Saturday and Sunday. Apparently too few people and too much wasted food on M-F.

Now I don't want to risk getting into trouble in the treacherous waters of restaurant reviewing, so I'll just say that I love India Express. It's the first place I want to go when I return from out of town, and my favorite lunch place on the Hill. So any bad news for them is bad news for me . . .

Fortunately, they do now have a reduced-price lunch menu, which includes things like vegetable korma with rice and salad (pictured) for $5. And naan (plain and garlic) for only $1! So at least there's some good news. Too bad about that buffet, but still a great lunch.

(Oh, and please someone tell me if this is over that too micro line.)

I heard this piece on KUOW the other day (mp3 audio here) about dodgeball in Cal Anderson.

I myself haven't taken part, but I was wondering how the chs readers feel about it all. The KUOW bit was pretty pro-dodgeball (and really, it seems tough to be opposed to that, doesn't it?) . . . but what about those tennis players? Who will speak up for them? (Besides the parks department, that is.) Will you? Or should our local ball dodgers have been allowed to play on?

Finally, if any of you play, any plans to find another outdoor venue?

I've got some shoes that I don't wear much, and a winter coat I brought from Illinois that didn't get much use here--should I just leave them on a sidewalk somewhere?

Is Value Village really that far, or that picky? Are the Salvation Army and the Goodwill really that much trouble?

Sorry if it seems like I'm fishing for comments here; I swear I'm not just trying to juke my stats. I'm just confused, and not really all that into walking past a pile of someone's unwanted stuff on my way home.
