And I can't imagine anything taking its place that would be as cool...

Is it just me, though, or is the Publicola story a little weird? Their finances are better this year than last year, so they're closing? What?

I don't want to say that small businesses should be willing to lose money in the short term in order to promote healthy neighborhoods, but I guess I kind of think that small businesses should be willing to lose money in the short term in order to promote healthy neighborhoods.

But that's really a side issue, as is how many lines I've filled on my Bailey/Coy card.

It's quiet on the 10th Ave side, and the hardwood floors are well-kept, and some units have cute glass cabinets (see below).

Plus, as jonglix rightly said, it's insanely convenient--within one block you have a bookstore, a liquor store, a bus stop, a grocery store, three coffee shops, two gyro places, pho, and pizza. Within one block!

on to the sweet 16
After the second round, Pizza Fusion has moved into 1st place on the Times scoreboard. Guess that's what happens when you get 13 out of 16, and pick some good early upsets.

(That bracket has the same name as the place where we watched the Huskies lose, but I won't hold that against anyone, I promise.)

Crimson&Blue is in 2nd--just ahead of josh, who picked 13 correctly--despite getting only 12 right, thanks to those upset picks.

Alternate ranking, less the bonus points:
1. josh (260)
2. Pizza Fusion (255)
3. Crimson&Blue (250)
4. yancy9 (245)
5. christinabollo (230)
6. dschonbe (215)
7. jonglix (215)
8. saranut (210)
9. jseattle (200)

Looks like j may have been right about josh having what it takes to survive and advance . . .

See you next weekend, CHS-ballers.

Times rules here.

Here's a ranking w/out the bonus points, awarding 5 points per correct 1st round pick:
1. Crimson&Blue (130)
1. josh (130)
2. Pizza Fusion (125)
2. yancy9 (125)
3. christinabollo (120)

PEMCO responds
I feel a little funny sharing this, since it almost seems like I'm endorsing this company what I've barley heard of, but I got this comment on my blog today, and thought that if anyone (J?) was still following this story they might like to see it:

Baaaa!

Hello. Yes, you are right about the goats. My name is Rod Brooks, NW Marketing Guy at PEMCO Insurance. The goats you saw will be "stars" of the small screen (in HD) by spring. As you reported, you found us filming the next in a series of commercials that feature our NW neighbors... including the interesting, quirky, and eco-friendly lives that we live.

I can't say more about the goats or the commercials just yet. The snow and ice storm didn't make things any easier for the production grew, but apparently the goats were fine with it.

I just wanted to stop by and say thanks for the mention in your blog. It's great to see the comments that the PEMCO campaign continues to create. In this case, even before the commercial is on the air. Not baaaaaad. (Sorry, couldn't resist).

RE: goats
Yeah, someone involved with the shoot told us that they had the goats run down Pine and into that green space by the Interstate, but that the goats tried turning into the dog park instead (?).

Just imagine what the hair and makeup truck was like!

Can I embed a photo into a comment?
If so, please enjoy this shot of the goats, who were there to star in a Pemco 'we're a lot like you' commercial:

RE: More Seattle whinning
"Relax and don't walk where you see ice." Um, so I should just stay in my apartment building? That doesn't exactly seem like a solution . . .

becca raises a good point, though: the building manager next-door spent basically all day yesterday shoveling, but the sidewalk is still icy. (Better than the sidewalk in front of my building, but still pretty darn icy.) I hate to say it, J, but I think salt is the only answer.

that sounds like the perfect plan: a button and then Oddfellows. I am so in your footsteps, Audrey!

and be prepared to wait
Another favorite quote, from this morning's Metro press release:

"Please dress warmly, wear appropriate footwear, and be prepared to wait. The buses that are running are expected to be significantly delayed."

Unpublished reroute
My favorite line from the Metro weather page, for buses like the 10 and 12:
"Due to adverse weather, this route is operating an unpublished reroute."

Um, yeah, stay home.

PS, way to get from Vita to Victrola and back in an hour, J.
