BBQ Puller Originally uploaded by bkraai2003 Capitol Hill is a pretty diverse place so you probably know a person or two who eats meat. Even though they soil their bodies consuming flesh, the carnivores probably care about where that steak came from. And though the farmers market has a few vendors providing fresh beef and poultry, there is another option for putting meat on your table. One group of hungry Capitol Hill families is turning to the east side of the state for their local meat needs. For a little more tha a year, Linda McElroy, has been buying her meat from Thundering Hooves, a family farm and ranch in the Walla Walla Valley, and having it delivered to her Capitol Hill home. She's the 'hostess' for a buying club that purchases meat from the farm. What started as a small group has turned into 85 families from Capitol Hill and surrounding areas going through McElroy for their carnivorous needs. While only about a fourth of the members order meat for the monthly delivery, that still amounts to a large... SSP got another administrative kick to the nads this last Friday when the WA state Department of Licensing upheld the ruling that SSP is a wrestling event and not a "fight-cabaret" theater. Unless SSP can make a successful appeal (to DOL or the King County Superior Court), operations will get a whole lot more expensive: Organizers say they can't afford the new fees — which also include a license and physical for each participant and a medic at each show. "If that's how they're going to classify us, it's probably not likely that we're going to keep going," said Brett Whistler, whose SSP persona is "Draven Lawless." You can find the whole tragic saga here. I just got back from this month's WorldChanging Seattle Meetup, which was held at the comfy/artsy Grey Gallery and Lounge. It started out as a way for WC Seattle's volunteer bloggers (like myself) to meet face to face, but it's quickly becoming a who's who of the local, green and networked. Luckily I had my handy-dandy notepad with me, so I took a bunch of notes about neat green projects currently sprouting up around Seattle.
I love Traveller's (501 East Pine St.super-tasty and inexpensive weekend cafe. The only thing about it that drove me nuts was that it wasn't open all week long. Now it is!
Please help keep my favorite Indian cafe/best chai place on the Hill open - go and have a tasty weekday lunch at Traveller's!
So I know this totally pegs me with respect to that poll from a few months ago, but is there a good place for kitchen stuff up here?
In particular, I've got this coffee pot that I just love, and which I might like to give to others as a gift: ![]() They're available on backorder from Vita (thanks for the links to local online shopping, J!), but are they the only supplier? And what if I need a spare gasket? Or a silicone basting brush??? I know there are places downtown, but anyone know of a place up here?
