Over the rope... Photos of pretty hipsters over at shut up, i love that shirt on you
We sent the Neighborlogs intern out to try to get some shots of the 500 Pine party. Only one problem. He didn't have an invite. He got to experience the party like plenty of other people did tonight -- outside with the signs and legal notices about film and photography. Meanwhile, Seadevi was on assignment for CHS with a +1 and full admittance. We haven't heard from her yet. Good times, we assume. The Stranger's Lineout blog featured this set of pictures of the 'movie set'-style recreation of the old 500 Pine watering holes that were part of tonight's party scene. This picture of a cool projection of the block somehow escaped Jansport's clutches and made it onto Twitter: Friday, the near infamous Dead Baby Bike club downhill challenge took over the intersection of Pike and 10th in preparation for their annual beer fueled high speed bike race. This years competition began at the Comet Tavern, where contestants and spectators steadied their nerves for the customary no-holds barred race to the death. A gleeful crowd swelled, nearly filling the intersection outside the Comet Tavern, occasionally blocking traffic but without serious incident. Bicycles were heaped on every rack and signpost around the corner as participants visited local watering holes. Custom built tallbikes, costumed riders and a bike mounted sound system turned 10th ave. into a street party until roughly 6:45 when the starting pistols fired and the crowds emptied from the tavern, found their wheels and headed South to Georgetown. The evening ended at the Dead Baby Bike club Headquarters with multiple bands and performances, including bike-driven amusement park rides by Cyclecide, bike... The fences were up, the bands were playing, the beer was flowing, and money was changing hands. Everybody's happy. Right? I wandered by Vermillion's Capitol Hill Bloxploitation Party to ask its owner, Diana Adams, how business has been with the Block Party going on this weekend. "It's got its ups and downs. It's got its good and bad. It's always been good for business, but it's been slower this year. I think it's just overall - they sold less tickets and less people want to go out." The place was pretty quiet, despite $2 Rainier tallcans and a crowd of thirsty partygoers right over the fence. Cupcakes Royale seconded the observation. "It's been kinda slow", said Leesa of our favorite new baked goods establishment. "We were doing pretty well [right after the Cap Hill store opened] and then it got quiet the last two days." Some of those working and living near the Block Party have stronger opinions about the event. "The Block Party, really, it's a bottleneck, " says a community member who wished to remain anonymous,... Most people are going to the Capitol Hill Block Party this weekend for the bands. The Seattle Green Bag Campaign will be there this Saturday for your votes. The brouhaha about the bag fee, a.k.a. Referendum 1, has been going on for awhile now (you can read more about it here and here). Do we pay 20 cents for disposable bags at the grocery store, or not? Things just got more exciting this week when the main anti-bag fee group, the American Chemistry Council, threw another $300K into the kitty, bringing their total anti-bag fee donations to over $1 million. Whether you agree with the fee or not, the American Chemistry Council's upped the ante to the point that the issue is hard to ignore. Why on earth would a group that includes Dow Chemical and ExxonMobil throw in so much money to oppose an issue that's backed by the tiny Seattle Green Bag Campaign and it's itty-bitty $65,000 budget? Huh. Might just be worth stopping by the SGBC booth this weekend to find out. The Project Release Party for HyBrid Architecture + Assembly’s newest project, Remington Court, is on Friday, May 1st.
This 4-unit urban infill housing project was developed, designed, and built by the team of HyBrid Architecture and HyBrid Assembly. HyBrid principal Robert Humble describes the project: “The best way to execute our vision and values was through developing this project ourselves. Access to light, air, and views was a primary force in shaping this building.”
The party will begin after work on Friday, with local artists (Jamie Potter, Tim Brown, and others) exhibiting their work and live music throughout the evening. Food and drinks will be provided as well, so stop by at any time that works with you, or stay for the entire event. Come have fun with the HyBrid team, explore our newest building, and we look forward to seeing you at the party this Friday!
Sincerely,
HyBrid Architecture + Assembly 206.267.2677

Has anyone heard of the haps on the hill for Halloween?
I noticed a stage going up over at RPlace today. Apparently, they're setting up for tonight's block party for the Gay Softball World Series. Tomorrow, the party moves over to Purr and will be going until 2AM. They've been doing some testing of the sound system, and it does kick out quite the phat beat, so if you're living in the neighborhood, you may as well just go down and dance, because you won't be getting any sleep.
This just appeared on the corner of Mercer and Summit. 10 points to those who remember what was there before. More points awarded to those that can provide a history of that space. Super ultra points go to those that can provide pictures.Googling a bit off some overheard info that it was an art gallery and having a party, Cairo has a MySpace, a blog, and is an interesting new addition to the neighborhood. From the cairo blog.
Neighbors and fellow bloggers Office Nomads have attracted the attention of the local media one month after the New York Times wrote an article on the co-working phenomenon. This Friday May 30, Office Nomads' six-month anniversary open house will take place from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at 1617 Boylston Ave. on Capitol Hill and is free. I plan to stop by and then go see American High at the Egyptian.
