October 31st, 2009, veteran Seattle Police officer Timothy Brenton was murdered and the rookie officer he was on patrol with that night was shot in an act of anti-police violence that shocked the community and set off a manhunt to find his killer.
Christopher Monfort was convicted of murder, attempted murder, and arson, and sentenced to life in prison in 2015 for the attack. Monfort was spared the death penalty but faces a life behind bars without the possibility of parole for murdering a law enforcement officer. Jurors deliberated for less than an hour on the decision.
