Blue Angels here, only Mike Ross can save us now

If I haven’t been obnoxious enough this week, just you wait. The Blue Angels will touch down on Tuesday. Some of you may recall my fondness for the Navy’s stunt and recruiting machines. This year, though, I’ll be a little more relaxed about the whole thing because I see a possible solution in the making.

At July 17th’s design commission review of the project, artist Mike Ross discussed the status of the controversial jet airplane sculptures he is planning for the Capitol Hill light rail station. As a supporter of the work’s artistic merit, I was disappointed to hear Ross cop to a situation some critics had warned about — in the review, Ross said he was having trouble arranging for the jet parts he needed to complete the design. Apparently, the military has requirements for how long a jet model needs to be out of commission before its parts can be purchased. I thought the few critics who had been lobbing up the potential problem were crack-pot blow-hards going off on some fantastic tangent. Maybe they were. But they were also right.

So, Mike, here are the scheduled war machine show-off times for the Angels. Go out and if see if they’re a match for the light rail station space. If you like them, please, take them. Sounds like you might need them.

thanks for the warning. time to start giving my dog the anti-anxiety drops so she doesn’t completely freak out when they buzz our house.

Every year (except that one year they had those lame Snowbirds). All my life. Love the Blue Angels.

Hi – sorry if it was confusing, we filed our post late Sunday night and said “tomorrow” which makes it Monday, not Tuesday – just doublechecked the Seafair media advisory, 11:30 am Monday. We probably should have just headlined it “arrive Monday” knowing most people wouldn’t see the post till Monday anyway …

I knew that. But this is part of my disinformation effort. Actually, like last year, the Blue Angels are canceled. Sorry everybody! No Blue Angels this year.

But the year with the Snowbirds we also had the Harrier. Unless I’m confusing it with another year – wasn’t that the year they were over Elliott Bay?

In any event, I would really love to see a Harrier again.

In my fuzzy memory, the Snowbirds were over Lk Wa – don’t know about the Harrier. There was a point in the mid-90s where they tried to have the Blue Angels over Elliott Bay – maybe 1 or 2 years – and it was cloudy for one of those Sunday shows so the show was pretty limited.

Hey AliceE, I should have done some research first (see Times article above). 1994 – no Blue Angels but they had the Harrier demo and the Snowbirds.

I was wondering why fighters just buzzed over Capitol Hill and downtown twice (or was it three times now?) and now I know – seafair is coming soon. Thanks CHS. I guess we can go back to threat level orange now.
