Crave loses lease

Slog has the scoop and owner Robin pops into the comments to add some color:

Thank you all for your support over the past 5 years. 3 months ago when CHAC was kicked out we had been assured our longevity was secure. This week we were informed that we are no longer welcome and have one month to move. We only want to make good food and satisfy the customer. Unfortunately we have not been perfect, however we have tried our best to please you. If you left angry I am sorry for that, however, next time you find yourself unhappy in a restuarant try saying so. I’ll bet your server will offer up a different meal or at least a monetary compensation. Silnce does not solve problems, but then neither does bitching after the math on line! Here is to change as I am embracing it as an opportunity for growth.

Crave now joins my “Places everybody else went to but I never ate there” list along with Fork/Coco La Tida, Red Line Pizza, Mongolian Grill and Kurrent. Oh, wait, Kurrent is still open. Different list.

Crave did provide some much-appreciated snacks for the Capitol Hill Community Council election night, however, and seemed to find a way to help lots of other community efforts on the Hill. So, can’t judge their brunch but can judge their community spirit — hopefully they find a new home on the Hill.

UPDATE: Central District makes play to recruit Crave

Yes, Kurrent’s name and façade are cloyingly Belltown-like, but go there during happy hour (they also do HH Saturday and Sunday). They have surprisingly cheap food specials (like a salmon burger with fries for $5) and drinks are reasonably priced too. The service was also very good and not snobby at all. I kind of miss the overpriced overwrought Vietnamese place that used to be in that space, but Kurrent isn’t all bad. Try it before you bash it.

I really enjoyed having breakfast at Crave. I actually found both the food and waitstaff enjoyable. That space had alot of character too. Boo.

One of my favorite spots on the hill – I so hope they find another space on the hill. As Dawggy notes, their previous space seemed perfect for the type of food they serve: sunny & cozy.

You need to get your nose checked. I’m a software engineer, not a restaurant shill. The difference in smells is usually pretty easy to spot. :)

I am so sad to hear this. Their Eggs Florentine is the bomb. Crave is one of my very favorite brunch spots. Hopefully their new space will be a little bigger.

Does anyone know if Crave has plans to open elsewhere or for that matter if the owner is looking to open a new Restaurant? I heard the sad new from the owner herself the last night I had the pleasure to dine there. Crave was my favorite date night, brunch nook, and wine/dessert after a show hangout in this entire small town gone city. I miss Crave dearly and hope to see the owner start again somewhere new soon. Congrats CHAC landlords you screwed the well loved little people again I hope your heart and your pocketbooks ache, though I doubt you’ll ever know what you have taken from us.
