Last year, CHS asked for some tips on where to see the city’s fireworks from Capitol Hill. Below is what we learned. Expect a few more bodies this year as the Lake Union fireworks will be the only show in town. Don’t want to overload any one place so make sure to spread out and let the short people up front. And bring your singing voice.

- You can also watch the from Capitol Hill on 22nd ave around Galer. There are usually at least 3 different displays to see. — Mike
- we usually head to the eastlake over-pass (which will be closed to traffic) to watch the lake union fireworks from there. best non-roof-top viewing i know of… — mmess

Message is the same for all locations. Don’t even try to drive. You’ll never find a place to park.
UPDATE:
SPD confirms comment below from Prospero — the Lakeview/Belmont overpass of I5 will be ‘closed’ during the fireworks Saturday night but it’s not entirely clear where you can — and can’t — gather in the area. Also, If you are planning to drive I5 for some crazy reason, make sure to check out Eastlake Ave’s map of 4th street and exit closures.
After some experiments with my Canon A540:
a) manual focus at infinity
b) manual shutter for a longish exposure (1/20th sec or more)
c) flash OFF (the twinkling flashes from Gasworks are pretty but drain your battery)
d) burst mode to take lots of pictures as fast as possible
e) prune ruthlessly when you get home and:

At least, that’s what SPD keeps telling me. No cars, bikes or people allowed on the overpass.
Agreed. In past years SPD has closed the overpass at least 30 minutes before the show. They wouldn’t let me go over to watch the show at Fred Hutch.
i’ll also add:
f) if you have a tripod, use it or find a surface to set the camera so it’s still and use your camera’s timer.
path to bellevue place park. it’s a couple of blocks south of the lakeview overpass
closed, meaning closed to cars? or closed to people standing on the overpass watching the fireworks? I’m pretty sure I remember that last year it was full of people watching the fireworks… but maybe not.
