Capitol Hill’s gay designers and land use wonks will face a dilemma this Saturday

Capitol Hill’s Saturday is shaping up to be unusually productive and educational with two important community events for you to get involved with on the CHS calendar.

  • Gay City University will be a day of learning for the LGBT community. $25 registration gets you a day of classes and lunch with the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence serving as cafeteria lunch ladies.

I am writing to let you know about Gay City Health Project’s annual event, Gay City University, which will be held this Saturday, September 12 from 9 am to 4 pm at the Northwest School on Capitol Hill. This event is an opportunity for gay, bi, and trans guys to come together as a community and explore a wide variety of relevant topics, including sexuality, health, relationships, history, culture, finances, and more. More at http://www.gaycity.org/index.php?page=gay_city_university.

  • The Capitol Hill Design Charrette is a community effort to start to build a vision for Broadway development.

While the organization for the event was sparked by a need for strong community involvement in the Sound Transit ‘transit oriented design’ process, Saturday’s workshop is being driven by a group of Capitol Hill community organizations including Capitol Hill Housing and the chamber of commerce. The workshop will involve about ten teams made up of community members and development experts running through exercises designed to identify and shape design opportunities along Broadway. Think Sim City only for realz.
