Melrose revamp begins: Sonic Boom opens its new Capitol Hill home

Capitol Hill typically likes to start its Hanukkah with snowfall. This year, we might get a few flakes — but Saturday we’re also getting a re-opened Sonic Boom. Here’s the @sonicboomnation announcement via Twitter:

Happy happy joy joy! New Capitol Hill location will be open tomorrow!!! 1525 Melrose Ave E , 10 am sharp! Come say Hi.

The Capitol Hill music store had originally slated a mid-November opening for their new Melrose location but delays pushed the launch back. Sonic Boom announced it was leaving 15th Ave E this summer to join the growing scene on Melrose and making way for an expansion of Olympia Pizza.

I’m sad that they moved. I hate Olympia’s soggy pizza and used to love dropping by Sonic Boom on the way home from work to pick up some new music. I’ll just have to go put of my way a little more now, and save money with less impulse buys. ;)

Unrelated: do people actually refer to it as “Pike/Pine” now? (As in “lets go to that new bar in PikePine.”) Some friends and I saw that on one of the marketing banners of one of the new condo buildings across from SCCC and thought it was a perfectly douchey example of developers trying to “brand” a neighborhood they don’t understand. Please tell me that bullshit isn’t catching on…

I call it Pike/Pine all the time. But I like nicknaming places. Looking forward to the I5 Shores marketing.
