New ‘Americana’ bar Still to open this Saturday

Still Liquor will open its doors tomorrow at 5 pm. According to its Facebook Page, co-owners Joshua Carrigan and Breckeen Anderson will be opening a bar in the hottest block of I-5 Shores – back to back with Liz Dunn’s Melrose Development. at 1524 Minor.  Note that they are not marketing themselves as a speakeasy, though they aspire for a Prohibition-era vibe:

In the spirit of war, peace and illegal booze, a 1920’s automotive garage has been restored into your new favorite watering hole. With the original blue print in mind, reclaimed wood, soft leather and rightly crafted cocktails have filled this basement with new emotion of old Americana. Welcome to STILL.

Knee High and Tavern Law on Capitol Hill and the Hideout on First Hill are bars that have identified themselves as speakeasies.

Not to be picky though, I consider the Melrose Building as part of the Pike/Pine neighborhood, not I-5 Shores.

Good catch. The maps have fuzzy, evolving boundaries for the neighborhoods. Looks like I-5 Shores creeped a little too far. Technically, Pike/Pine! sez the map

But maybe we should start calling that part Melrose?

i like the idea that property one to two blocks away from i5, no matter what other sub-neighborhood they are in, becomes part of “the shores”.

Nope. The Pike/Pineyness of any address supersedes any sub-neighborhood. I-5 Shores is everything north of Olive Way.

…because of the convention center/freeway park lid.
