Crossroads Trading expands, takes over Broadway Grocery space

The old Broadway Grocery location has sat empty since closing in September of last year, but rather suddenly* in the past couple of days Crossroads Trading has taken over the corner space.  North Broadway still has a pretty good collection of clothing stores, as the expanded store sits across the street from an Urban Outfitters, Red Light Vintage Clothing and Aprie, among others.  So with many seeing nothing but doom and gloom for North Broadway as Pike/Pine thrives, this could be a sign that retail is still doing fine in the area.

…there was a sign posted on the door in January that Crossroads was taking over that space.

Pshaw. The sign said no such thing. It did say they were responsible for the dumpsters, tho. But, regardless, the story is that it’s open now, no? I’m off Hill until Thursday so thanks for being eyes and ears!

The rents are so high that no business can afford to open on Broadway.

I’ve been in Seattle 16 years and there’s literally nothing that’s still here from 16 years ago except the shoe repair guys and Broadway Video in what’s left of Broadway Market.

AS I live right across the street, this is so nice to see the space be filled. Hopefully as the economy starts to pick back up, we will see more business fill the now empty storefronts and the new ones that will be completed soon!

Nothing left? You’re wrong. QFC, Dick’s, Kinko’s, Galerias, Perfect Copy, Charlie’s and the post office were there 16 years ago. Some of those business have moved, but they are still around.
