I am deeply concerned about the growing rate of distracted driving on the roads of our state. Texting and talking on mobile devices while driving is not merely a “personal decision.” Just like drunk driving, it puts others at risk.
As a resident of our high density and eclectic neighborhood, this negligent behavior is simply unacceptable. At the moment, it is impossible to walk even one block without seeing a distracted driver.
The vote on SSB 6345 – introducing legislation to make phone-related distracted driving as socially and legally unacceptable in Washington State as drunk driving – will occur later today.
Please take a few moments right away to send an email to your legislators. Ask your friends to do the same. These messages can hopefully keep the bill above the fray in Olympia right now.
