Capitol Hill beer week preview

Seattle Beer Week, a festival whose purpose is to showcase Seattle beer, begins 5/13/10 and ends 5/23/10.  Here is a preview of events taking place on the hill, organized by venue:

(CHS Sponsor) The BottleNeck Lounge, Thursday, May 13 Roslyn Brewer’s Night 5-8 pm:  Featuring Roslyn beer on tap:  Brookside Pale Lager, Roslyn Dark Lager & the new Roslyn IPA! All Pints are $4. Brewer Kent Larimer will be on hand to sip some brew and answer questions. Giveaways all night long

(CHS Sponsor) Central Cinema, Monday, May 17 Beer and a Movie Night 6-9 pm: A screening of the cult film favorite, Strange Brew. A Bob and Doug McKenzie costume contest. Win prizes from Snoqualmie Falls Brewing Company and Central Cinema! Get there early to ensure you can have your costume judged. A $10 ticket gets you in and buys your first beer.  

The Elysian:

Sunday 5/16 CYCLOPS OLYMPICS 2-6 pm:  5 vintages of Cyclops Barleywine “Olde One Eye” Cask: ’04, ’05, ’06 /  Draught: ’08 & ’09.  Party games include Pin the Eye on the Cyclops, Peasant Bean Bag Toss and more..win fabulous and ridiculous prizes.

Wednesday 5/19 FIRKIN-FIRKIN WA vs. OR 3:00 pm:  8 breweries from WA and OR will compete head to head with 8 styles all in cask conditioned Firkins. From WA: Big Time, Pike, Silver City, Elysian, Naked City, Ram N-Gate, Black Raven & Fremont Brewing.  From OR: Ninkasi, Rogue, Laurelwood, HUB, Pelican, Beer Valley, Bend Brewing & Double Mountain.  We will honor last years winner Firestone Walker Union Jack IPA and have that on cask as well.

Thursday 5/20 MARGARITA THURSDAY 3-6 pm:  With all the beer sometimes you need a little Tequila.  A Thursday tradition at The Elysian: Margarita, Tequila and taco specials.

Saturday 5/15 Port Townsend Brewery Night 7-10 pm

Sunday 5/16 Black Raven Brewery Night 7-10 pm

Quinn’s

Throughout Seattle Beer Week, Quinn’s will be offering 1/2 price on their entire beer inventory from 3 to 5 pm.  

Monday 5/17 De Proef Brewmaster’s Collaboration Dinner 6:30 pm:  6 course, 8 beer dinner created by Quinn’s Chef/Owner Scott Staples will feature the worldwide release of the newest De Proef collaboration beer – Monstre Rouge created with Terrapin Brewery in Athens, GA as well as the announcement of a Northwest brewer as the 2011 collaboration partner.  Tickets are $60, plus tax & tip. Tickets may be purchased by calling the restaurant (206-325-7711) and providing a credit card number.

Tuesday 5/18 Naked City Brewer’s Nite 3-7 pm: Naked City’s co-owners Don Webb and Donald Averill will be present 

The Stumbling Monk

Saturday 5/15 Rochefort Trappist Brewery Night 7:30-9:30 pm :  The Stumbling Monk hosts a “meet the brewer” night with Mr. Gumer Santos, brewer for Rochefort Trappist Brewery, and export agent Alfons Vandermolen. 

Wednesday 5/19 New Belgium Night 7-10 pm:  A trip through Belgium with New Belgium Brewing Company. Limited edition and rare releases.

Volunteer Park Cafe, Wednesday 5/19 Stone Brewing Co. Dinner 7 pm:  5-course dinner paired with Stone Brewing Co. beers. Founding Brewer Steve Wagner and Northwest regional representative, Jeff Porter, will be on hand to discuss beer, drink, eat, and have some fun.  Dinner begins at 7pm and cost is $65/person (excluding tax and gratuity). Reservations are recommended and can be made by calling VPC at (206) 328-3155.

On a day like this, sure glad it is beer week. A cold brew after work will be just the ticket.

Just wondering, what week is not beer week on C. Hill?

Quinn’s is also doing Pig & Dick’s on Saturday 5/15 from noon – 4:00. $15 get’s you all you can eat and some beer. Live music. Whole roasted mammal. What’s not to love?
