Reminder: Tuesday forum on light rail power line upgrades — Tunneling to begin in July?

Brief reminder that Seattle City Light will be in the neighborhood Tuesday night to hear community questions and concerns about a project to create an upgraded route of larger utility poles and thicker power cables  between the Pine substation and the light rail construction site along Broadway between John and Denny. The work will create a temporary high-capacity system to power the tunnel boring machine.

Sound Transit officials have said they now expect tunneling to begin in July but no official start date has been announced. The power upgrade, of course, needs to be completed before any tunneling can begin. An agency spokesperson said a public outreach campaign about traffic safety around the construction will begin prior to the start of tunneling as traffic involving dump trucks increases in the area. Part of this campaign will involve information being distributed to children in area schools and a mass maiing, we’ve been told.

Seattle City Light is inviting customers to discuss the project with us during a community meeting at Miller Community Center, 330 19th Ave. E., Seattle, from 6:30-8 p.m. on Tuesday, May 25th. Customers can follow the construction schedule by visiting: http://www.seattle.gov/light/aboutus/construction/
