Retrofit’s new Pike home ready for business

We received a note from co-owner Jön Milazzo announcing that art and furnishing retailer Retrofit Home will be open for business at its new home on E. Pike on Wednesday:

we moved on sunday…
we reopen to the public tomorrow. yes. paper is comin off the windows.
we are complete nutcases.

we have 10 days until our official ‘opening party’.

We reported that Retrofit was planning a move from its 12th Ave location back in February. In April, CHS revealed that Izilla Toys would be moving upstairs into the former Retrofit space from its below-street-level location beneath Plum and La Spiga.

The new Retrofit location at 1103 E. Pike is the former home or Aria Salon which now has a home on E. Pine near 14th Ave. You can keep track of Retrofit via its new @retrofithome Twitter account.

Meanwhile, it’s becoming difficult to find an open space around Pike/Pine between 12th and Broadway. Landlords are being creative in trying to be part of the wave of activity. We talked to a crew cleaning out old storage units and practice space in the basement beneath the Square Room and Ballet restaurant. No tenant lined up yet, one person told us, but they’re looking to fill the space. There’s still at least one street-level storefront open after the deal to bring Money Tree to the space between the Lobby Bar and the Comet fell through. Up the street, the former offices of development firm Hunters Capital are empty, but not for long. CHS reported this week that that space at 10th and Pike is destined to be home to the latest project from Cafe Juanita’s Holly Smith. You’ll have to look outside Pike/Pine for empty Capitol Hill spaces to launch your dream business.
