Celebrate the 4th (on the 3rd) on the Hill: 8th annual Independence Day picnic at Cal Anderson

In order to maintain a level of sanity these past couple months, Capitol Hill residents have reminded themselves that summer in Seattle doesn’t start until July 4th. Do-or-stay grey time is approaching — it’s time for the Cal Anderson Park Alliance 8th Annual Independence Day Picnic. The picnic is a free event that will be held on Saturday, July 3rd from 12-5 PM at Cal Anderson Park. You can RSVP via Facebook here.

Attendees can look forward to food by Skillet, Belkathe park’s 2010 summer vendor — and Molly Moon’s Ice Cream.

Scheduled music includes The Not-It’s, Toucans Steel Drum Band, Eldridge Gravy & The Court Supreme, and The Raggedy Anns.

Other fun activities include free cotton candy, family portraits, community kickball, a pie-eating contest, and a cupcake walk to name a few.

Here is our coverage from the 2009 Capitol Hill 4th festivities and a promo video from CAPA. You can learn more about the Alliance and keep track of park events on their Facebook page. We’ve heard the posters for this year’s event are also pretty darned cool — and apparently not to be found online. Have you seen one?
