How do you Handle Door-to-Door Solicitors?

In what seems to be a disturbing trend where I live on North Capitol Hill, I’ve had four people ring my doorbell asking for business this past week – one realtor, one arborist, and two separate crews from a shady outfit called “Strickly Business 1, Inc” selling magazine subscriptions.

I’m curious how others handle these kinds of door-to-door solicitations. One of the things I like about our neighborhood is it’s still the kind of place where girl scouts and those with a reasonable political cause can go door-to-door and be received with a  friendly face, but the sales calls have got to stop.

I just had a visit in Bothell from two individuals from “Strictly Business 1, Inc” attempting to sell me magazine subscriptions that they suggest I donate to a charity (woman’s shelter, YMCA, etc). When I told them that there was something not right about this and that I needed to check into the business, they left without any further discussion. I did a little online research and decided to call the Bothell Police Dept to report it. I would suggest that anyone approached by someone from this outfit call the local police immediately.
