Why our Sunday sky turned red

The big red Sound Transit construction wall isn’t so red anymore. This picture from Dennis Saxman shows the continued progress of artist Baso Fibonacci on his 10th and John mural. But the sky this first Sunday of August is most definitely red.

Or gold. Or purple depending on who you ask. According to KING-5’s Twitter voice, Seattle’s unusually colored sunlight today is due to smoke from forest fires burning in British Columbia and Yukon Territory. Despite the dangerous conditions up north, get ready for a gorgeous sunset around the Puget Sound as B.C. fire sunsets awed us also in summer 2009.

UPDATE: Here’s one Capitol Hill view of the last light Sunday night from Jeanine Anderson:

has satellite pictures ( http://cliffmass.blogspot.com/2010/08/stratus-fires-and-answ ) which certainly show lots of smoke. Cliff speculates “From the eastern wa fires? “

If Cliff doesn’t know, who does?

The mural is taking shape nicely … dull colors, but pastel has never been my range … who would describe the Hill as “muted pastel colors”?

Brave to tackle the 25 foot wall …

Along Bwy. they have a not art ad for some .com – not pretty at all. Plastic panels too boot – collective yuk?

Wait, surely Dennis Saxman sent the photo in to complain about something. What was it; light rail? future development? walls? the color grey?

Now, now. Let’s encourage, Dennis. I know a few developers will be glad to see he’s picked up a new hobby.

Gray? Gray is a no complain color?

Exciting.

I am not Dennis.

But then, some people never have any opinions. They love gray.
