A woman bicyclist was injured early Saturday morning after being struck by a driver who police say was driving while impaired, according to a Seattle Police report. The incident happened just after 2 AM Saturday morning at the intersection of 10th Ave East and East Lynn, a stretch of road  currently filled with construction equipment and road signs due to the paving project underway in the area.

The driver was tested for impairment and booked into jail on a felony charge of vehicular assault.

The woman was taken to Harborview with serious injuries. The full SPD report is below.

UPDATE 9/20/2010 10:50 AM: We’ve learned a little bit more about the man arrested in this incident. He is a 28-year-old with a Queen Anne address. His record appears to be mostly clean with only a few district court appearances over the years.

We reported earlier today this eyewitness account of a car vs. pedestrian accident on East Pike early Friday morning..

On September 18th at approximately 2:17 a.m. a female bicyclist was traveling northbound on 10th Avenue East approaching East Lynn Street.  At approximately the same time a silver Infinity G20 traveling eastbound on East Lynn Street stopped for a stop sign at 10th Avenue East.  The Infinity then drove eastbound across the intersection and collided with the bicyclist.

SFD medics responded to the scene and transported the cyclist to Harborview Medical Center for treatment of head and facial injuries that she sustained from the collision.

Investigating officers evaluated the driver of the Infinity for signs of impairment due to alcohol and/or drugs. Impairment was detected and the driver of the car was transported to Harborview for a blood draw (results pending laboratory analysis).

The driver of the Infinity was subsequently booked into the King County Jail for Investigation of Vehicular Assault, a felony.

The Infinity was impounded and taken to the evidence garage.  Traffic Collision Investigation Squad detectives responded to the scene and continue to actively investigate.
