North Capitol Hill neighbors look at plans for Seattle Prep project as 520 looms

The North Capitol Hill Neighborhood Association has announced a community meeting to discuss two big construction projects taking shape in coming years that will impact our area’s northern bounds. The NCHNA says their board president Pegeen Shean has met with representatives from Seattle Preparatory about the private high school’s plans for a major construction project on the 11th Ave East campus and will be discussing the status of the project in Wednesday night’s community meeting.

According to paperwork filed with the city, Seattle Prep is in initial phases of planning a significant overhaul to their Peyton Hall building that will include a renovation and addition to the building. The company designing the project is LMN Architects who worked on Seattle U’s Lee Center for the Performing Arts among other area projects. You can see a roster of their education projects here.

NCHNA will also update neighbors and community members on their efforts to shape the 520 replacement project. We talked to the group about their worries about the plans for the state’s overhaul of the freeway — and mistakenly referred to them as the ‘NCHA’ — here. Neither the NCHNA nor the Capitol Hill Community Council are represented in the public comments related to the recently completed “design refinements and transit connections” workgroup process intended by law to shape WSDOT’s SR 520 plan. We’ll have more on that shortly.

Meeting next Wednesday

NCHNA’s board has already twice met with Prep’s administrators, architects and contractors on the upcoming project. Next week, all neighbors who live north of E. Howe St. are invited to hear, discuss and weigh in on the results so far.
