More Hill food+drink: Mod debuts, Kiki & Tommy gun grand openings, Marination Station details

We’re well aware that we already served up our weekly helping of food + drink hand here on CHS — including a bonus burger and shake. But with the amount of activity in this sphere of the Hill economy, this news won’t wait. So make room.

  • Mod “Super Fast” Pizza is ready to serve you on north Broadway in the Joule building. In their Twitter announcement, Mod called the March 31st Capitol Hill debut a “soft-launch opening.” Hours are 11 AM – 10 PM. Somebody, by the way, issued a “graffiti restaurant trend” media release including Mod’s walls and a few local outlets bit.
  • Kiki hopes to make you forget about Kurrent when it celebrates its grand opening Friday night April 1st. The reincarnation of Green Papaya (that’s a good thing!) is offering a 25% off your dinner bill coupon via Facebook.
  • We showed you a pre-opening look at East Olive Way’s Tommy Gun. Their first week appears to have been successful. Cap it off by helping the new neighborhood bar celebrate its grand opening on Saturday with the debut of its cocktail menu.
  • Poquitos also got off to a bustling start but is pulling back to re-tool on lunch, according to this note posted to their Facebook page:
  • We told you that street food purveyor Marination Mobile was joining the in-motion foodie trend of putting down roots in Capitol Hill way back in December. This week, Marination Station’s official announcement hit the inboxes of Seattle’s foodie media corps. You can watch for its opening coming up soon in mid-April on the top level of the Harvard Market shopping center at Pike and Broadway.

MARINATION MOBILE PARKS IT WITH MARINATION STATION
Seattle’s Sauciest Food Truck Now Has a Brick and Mortar Location

SEATTLE – March 28, 2011 – This mid-April, the team behind Marination Mobile, the Seattle-based Hawaiian-Korean barbecue truck named America’s Best Food Truck by Good Morning America viewers and one of Zagat’s Top Newcomers on the Today Show, will open Marination Station. The brick-and-mortar outpost is located above QFC at the corner of Broadway and Pike in Seattle’s Capitol Hill neighborhood. The 601 square-foot restaurant will be open seven days a week from 11 a.m.-8 p.m.

Marination Station is the brainchild of entrepreneurs Kamala Saxton, a sports-loving, nonprofit consultant, and Roz Edison, a Harvard graduate and University of Washington adviser. In addition to Hawaiian-Korean favorites like kalbi beef, spicy pork, kalua pork, and tofu, Marination Station will feature revolving specials like the Loco Moco, musubi, kimchi tofu soup, and miso ginger chicken bánh mì.

Since nothing washes down spicy and sweet Hawaiian-Korean delicacies quite like an ice-cold beer, Marination Station will offer a selection of beers, including Hite, Primo and Maui Brewing Company.“These days, life for the Marinators feels like going through the car wash with Big Blue.  It’s a bit messy and turbulent right now, and we can’t go any faster than the track will let us, but we’re looking forward to coming out the other side squeaky clean, shiny and ready to roll!” says Roz Edison.

Meanwhile, Marination Mobile will continue rolling through the streets of Seattle as the sun begins to peek through the clouds. Find out more about Marination Mobile locations and hours at www.marinationmobile.com or on Twitter at twitter.com/curb_cuisine.

  • Finally, 12th Ave’s Varro is nearly ready to open for business. We’ll have more details on the Italian styled lounge soon.
