CHS Pics: Ira Finkelstein’s Christmas filming on 19th Ave E

Back in the day, 19th Ave’s Russian Community Center used to be the Roycroft Theatre, famous for, among other things, being a popular destination for juvenile film goers for Saturday kids-day matinees.

This week, shooting is underway inside the community center for indie film Ira Finkelstein’s Christmas, a tale of a “Christmas obsessed” Jewish boy who travels to Christmastown, WA (aka, Leavenworth) to get the “Christmas of his dreams.”

Director of the Christmas Story-esque picture is Seattle-based filmmaker Sue Corcoran. The film stars Elliott Gould and Cynthia Geary — Geary, in a tip passed on to CHS, was mistaken for Darryl Hannah by the tipster.

Here’s an early rough from the production:

Production appears to be taking place entirely inside the Russian community hall with the requisite trailers and RVs parked along 19th Ave between Roy and Aloha. The production headquarters has been established at nearby St. Joe’s where extras are checking in and wardrobe and make-up has been set up.

Shooting in the area should run through Friday.
