HUGE thank you goes out to CHS and the Capitol Hill community. Louis was found yesterday evening!
A homeless man called us around 5:30pm saying that he thinks he found Lou. We were skeptical because we’ve received several scammers and false sightings, but we had to follow up on every lead, no matter how far-fetched it sounded. The man was sincere and straightforward, and he led us to a wooded area along I-5 near Dearborn. We hiked up a steep embankment, and he pointed our a dog under a tree on a woolen shelter blanket. We immediately knew it was Louis from the white stripe along his neck, but he was so weak that he could barely muster enough energy to get up to meet us.
He immediately went limp in our arms like a ragdoll, and we rushed to the emergency vet. He lost about 30% of his body weight and looks like a sheet was thrown over an anatomical skeleton. He has a bunch of scrapes and scarring along his forehead, legs, and shoulders, and an eye infection. Prognosis is good, though — slowly reintroduce him to food and water, and some antibiotics for the eye. He should have a full recovery and slowly grow some hair back.
The man who called us about finding Lou was so kind and helpful. He wasn’t reward motivated, and when we gave him a generously appropriate gift, he, too, was over the moon. We were happy to give him a little something to help out his life which is full of hardship.
Thank you all for your help in spreading the word and keeping an eye out for our little buddy. We are overwhelmingly happy and are so grateful for the outpouring of support from strangers, friends, and family alike. Thank you again.
RE: Posters: We’re doing the responsible thing and working on taking them down. It is slow, and we apologize as it will take us some time to fully sweep the city. It took us three weeks and a team of friends and family to put them up. Thank you to all who have volunteered to grab some down while you’re out and about in your daily lives–we appreciate you alleviating our clean-up process!!!
With our deepest thanks and appreciation,
Mike and Kendall
I am SO happy and relieved for you! I, too, am the proud parent of a snub-nosed dog, and my heart just broke for you when I saw your posters (genius idea, by the way. Sure paid off.).I hope nothing too horrible happened to your Lou and that he will be okay … I’m so glad you have him back and will snuggle my bulldog a little closer tonight. Take care.
What a heartwarming story almost made me cry! So glad to hear about a happy ending. Reminds me of watching Lassie as a kid but this story was real! http://bostonterrierstoday.com
Nobody deserved to get their pet back more than these folks. And of the multitude of flyers I see daily around the “Hill,” few if any signs have a more genuine reason for being posted than Louie’s.
In ten years walking my dog along Bellevue Ave & Pine, I’ve never seen a poster removing their own signs. Give these folks a break! I take them at their word that they’ll take the signs down. These blunt removal removal requests are better aimed at the bars and clubs who incessantly post signs of their never ending special events and concerts. Seattle could eliminate its budget deficit if the city would only track down and fine sponsors who never give a second thought to their posters after they’re printed.
Emoticons don’t negate snotty remarks.
People all over the city are helping take down the signs. Your comment didn’t help the process at all. But we will. :) See?
It’s great that you got Louis back!
Congrats.
As for those posters, I have been tearing them down as I see them. If the community took the time to be concerned about him (and comment on his return) then I don’t see why we can’t lend a hand on taking them down for you. Dozens of the comments start with a positive then end with a negative which is very sad. M&K, I know you folks are working hard and I am sorry that the redundancy of the poster removal requests is taking over and overshadowing the awesomenss of your pups return.
Congrats again.
So glad you guys got him back!!! Was the man that found him named Indio by any chance?
i’m so thrilled you found your baby! i saved your number in my phone and made my parents do it too, we love animals and all swore we would follow anyone suspicious until you came to verify it wasnt your dog if we saw one we thought it could be.. i’m so soooo happy he’s home. i’ll take down posters in lower queen anne. so happy for your all!!!! :)
agree, i’ll take down ones i see in lower queen anne (or any others i see)
I am THRILLED for all of you! I’m thrilled for you, the family, for the homeless man who did a good-hearted deed, and most of all thrilled for Louis!! If I see one of your posters now, I will smile instead of hurt. YAY!!!
Look at you winning, Gripe. You awesome winner, you. :)
So happy to see that Louis is recovering nicely. Pulled down a couple posters today. Effort seems to be going well.
*All paws in the air for Louis*
I am so happy for Louis to be found, so sorry for the rudeness of some people also. Thank God you found your boy, I tear up just thinking about what I would do if I had this ordeal to deal with. I would not sleep well. Hoping this finds you all sleeping well again. I bet Louis is glad to be home again. Again I am so happy you found him in time!
I have a little Boston with similar markings – and having been getting many second looks during our daily walks – which I didn’t mind at all. It made me realize that our neighborhood truly bands together in time of need. I’m so happy Lou is back with his loving masters!
So glad he’s back. If the person who is sooo concerned about a lost dog poster still up on a pole why not remove the other gunk taking up room on the poles around town? The poles are well padded-do the city a favor. They have to pay to have the poles clean and your taxes pay for it. Clean a pole lower your taxes.
I’m overjoyed Louis is home. Way to go Capitol Hill People for your concern and help, applause, you deserve it.
What an amazing, heartwarming story. Truly. Now that Louis has a new lease on life, please neuter him immediately and give life to the 10+ million animals killed each year due to overpopulation. Louis is all you need :-) or of course he perhaps needs a rescue buddy :))
So glad you got your buddy back! Pretty amazing. Here’s to his recovery and health. And to the person who reunited you.
Hi there! We too have been following the plight of Louis – thank goodness he’s back safe and sound. We are interested in featuring him on our next Hair of The Dog Drink menu at The BottleNeck Lounge – perhaps his 15 minutes of fame will be more pleasant for him this time around. Could someone give his owners a heads up to contact Erin at The BottleNeck please? I can be reached at [email protected] oe 206.323.1098. Thanks!
I live on First Hill and work in Capitol Hill, so I saw your posters a lot and read the developments with interest and deep sympathy. I even took a photo of a poster and posted it to Facebook, hoping to help spread the word. I admired your efforts and am so glad they paid off, and of course I’m so glad Louis is going to be OK. Whew!!
If I see posters I’ll try to take them down.
On an indirectly related note — let’s all be sure to spay and neuter our dogs and cats, and support groups like the ASPCA, to help keep down the numbers of homeless dogs and cats out there.
